One of this week’s tabloids claims Jennifer Lopez’s friends want her to dump Alex Rodriguez because of his reputation as a “serial cheater.” The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

Shortly after the couple announced their engagement earlier this month, retired MLB player Jose Canseco claimed on Twitter that the former Yankee was cheating on Lopez with his ex-wife, Jessica Canseco. Jessica, however, said the tweets were “false accusations” and explained that she hasn’t seen Rodriguez in years.

Lopez and Rodriguez have ignored the unfounded cheating allegations from the ex-baseball player’s longtime rival, but the National Enquirer is attempting to create a soap opera out of the situation. A headline in the latest issue of the magazine reads, “Pals Beg J. Lo To Dump ’Stray-Rod!’”

The accompanying article says the singer’s friends want her to call off her engagement to the former Yankee because they’re convinced he’s been cheating on her. “Her friends are baffled that she is the only one who can’t see it, and are begging her to ditch him before he breaks her heart,” a supposed source tells the tabloid.

None of this is remotely true. In fact, Lopez opened up about her engagement to Rodriguez in an interview with People magazine last week. The singer noted that the two are “really happy” together and are “constantly supporting each other.” In a separate interview, Lopez made a point of noting that both she and her fiancé have “had some ups and downs” in their past relationships, “but we are not defined by our mistakes and we get back to what matters.”

Although Lopez herself made it clear that she and Rodriguez are in a good place in their lives, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to the singer to get to the bottom of the Enquirer’s story. Our trustworthy insider assures us there’s “no truth” to the article, adding, “Everyone knows Jose’s claims were untrue/crazy and paid them no mind and her friends are really happy with the engagement.”

Unfortunately, we’re not surprised by the outlet’s phony report. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid back in November for falsely claiming Lopez and Rodriguez were already secretly engaged and in a “trial marriage.” Their real engagement wouldn’t come until several months later. Last April, the outlet published a contradictory story about Rodriguez refusing to marry Lopez. That clearly wasn’t the case either.

Canseco’s tweets haven’t had an impact on Lopez and Rodriguez’s engagement. The former MLB player has a contentious history with Rodriguez and his allegations haven’t been backed up with a shred of evidence. The Enquirer is simply trying to capitalize on a baseless controversy, despite the newly engaged couple paying zero attention to it.
