Jennifer Lawrence is not engaged to Darren Aronofsky, despite a report based on photos that show the actress wearing a ring on her wedding finger. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this speculative claim. We’re told it’s “not true.”

The Daily Mail raised eyebrows on Friday when it published paparazzi shots of Lawrence running errands in Los Angeles sporting a piece of jewelry on her left hand. Above the pictures, the British tabloid ran a misleading headline that reads, “What’s that on her finger? Jennifer Lawrence spotted wearing a massive ring on wedding hand while out in Los Angeles.” In the accompanying article, the outlet claims the actress had “tongues wagging” when she “stepped out wearing a massive sparkly ring on her wedding finger.” “A gift from Aronofsky?” questions the newspaper.

While the publication merely intimates that Lawrence might be engaged, and shows the “massive ring” from different angles, conspicuously absent is any semblance of reporting. The tabloid doesn’t mention reaching out to sources to fact-check its speculation that the band Lawrence is wearing is actually an engagement ring. It lazily just asks, “What’s that on her finger?”

Gossip Cop, however, doesn’t pose questions. We get answers. A Lawrence confidante exclusively tells us the actress is not engaged to Aronofsky. She was simply photographed wearing costume jewelry, not an engagement ring. It seems the paper simply wanted to post an eye-grabbing headline about Lawrence.

This isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has corrected an outlet for falsely speculating the actress had accepted a marriage proposal. In 2016, we corrected the notoriously unreliable HollywoodLife when it wrongly maintained Lawrence was engaged to her X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult. In that story, the webloid similarly salivated over her “wearing a giant ring on her left hand.” But that report, much like the current one from the Daily Mail, also didn’t ring true.
