Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are no longer friends? That's the bogus report in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop can debunk the phony drama.
According to OK!, the two actresses have been drifting apart, to the point where they're "barely in contact" any more. "Emma and Jen's lives both revolve around their significant others, and that hasn't left a lot of room for girl talk," an alleged source tells the publication. "They used to speak on the phone every day, and meet up for lunch once a week, but things haven't been the same in a while."
The supposed insider says Lawrence and Stone will occasionally go on double dates, but the outings are "awkward at best," as their respective partners don't get along. Lawrence's husband, art dealer Cooke Maroney, has "nothing in common" with Stone's fiance, Saturday Night Live writer Dave McCary, says the unknown tipster. "There's no hatred or bad feelings between the two ladies, but Jen is in full-blown newlywed mode and is focusing on her new circle of artsy friends. At this point, they're no longer missing each other."
The tabloid's report is baseless. Although it's reasonable to believe that Lawrence and Stone spend somewhat less time together now that one is newly married and the other's newly engaged, they're still very close. The magazine doesn't bother to mention that Stone attended Lawrence's wedding in October. Stone's fiance accompanied her to the nuptials. The reason the magazine doesn't mention any of this is because it doesn't fit the fake narrative its selling.
Gossip Cop also checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us the tabloid's article is nonsense. It should be noted, OK! attempted to create a fake feud between Lawrence and Stone back in 2017. The outlet said at the time that the two actresses were jealous and "uncomfortable" around each other. In the time since we debunked that article, they've frequently socialized together.
Just last month, Gossip Cop called out OK!'s sister publication, Life & Style, for wrongly reporting that Lawrence and Stone were helping Adele launch a movie career. In addition to that story being untrue, it made no mention of the two Oscar winners no longer being close.
Last year, Gossip Cop busted Star, another sister outlet of OK!, for falsely claiming Lawrence was telling Stone to dump Justin Theroux. The problem with that scenario? Stone was never in a romance with the actor. In fact, she was dating McCary at the time the article was published. This latest story involving the two actresses is more fiction.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
