A new tabloid story claiming Jennifer Lawrence wants to date director David O. Russell is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can correct the false claim. We're told the two are just friends.
The actress and filmmaker, who worked together on Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy, were spotted walking arm-in-arm after grabbing dinner in New York City in late April. The frequent collaborators have been friends for years, so there's nothing out of the ordinary about them meeting for a meal. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped NW from wrongly reporting there's a romance developing between the two.
The unreliable magazine insists Lawrence is "crushing hard" on Russell and is eager to take their relationship to the next level. A so-called "source" tells the outlet, "Everyone has always thought they might eventually become a couple as they get on so well. And now it seems like it could be happening!" It's not.
A reliable source tells Gossip Cop on the condition of anonymity that Lawrence and Russell's friendship isn't turning into a romance, nor does the actress want to date her longtime pal and colleague. Prior to the tabloid publishing the phony rumors, E! News actually noted last week that Lawrence and Russell's relationship is "purely friendly and professional." NW also fails to mention that the director shares a child with costume designer Holly Davis, who he's been in a relationship with since 2007.
It's also worth noting, Lawrence revealed on Marc Maron's podcast in February that she and Russell may collaborate on another movie in the fall, so it's possible they met to discuss the project. It also seems likely that the untrustworthy publication decided to fuel the bogus romance rumors because the actress previously dated Mother director Darren Aronofsky. Of course, it's also common practice for the tabloids to arbitrarily claim two people are dating because they happened to have dined out together.
Regardless of the outlet's motive for alleging the two are on the verge of becoming a couple, that's just not the case. Additionally, NW has proven to be a very unreliable source when it comes to news about the actress's love life. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid in February for wrongly reporting that Lawrence was dating Red Sparrow co-star Joel Edgerton. Shortly before that, the outlet made up a story about Lawrence considering dating Johnny Depp. Cleary, the actress never had a romantic relationship with either star, and that applies to Russell as well.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
