Is Jennifer Garner threatening to take away her three kids with Ben Affleck if he doesn't sober up, as a tabloid is asserting? The quick answer is an emphatic no. Gossip Cop can provide a mountain of evidence to debunk the claim.
Affleck, who has publicly battled addiction issues in the past, recently admitted that he had "slipped," but added, "I'm not going to let it derail me." NW took the opportunity to invent a crazy story alleging Affleck's ex-wife and the mother of his three children now sees him as a "lost cause." The tabloid claims to have spoken to a "family friend," who tells the outlet, "There's only so much Jen can take. It's become especially hard to hide Ben's antics from their daughter, Violet, because she's now old enough [at 13] to read about it online." This led to Garner, according to the so-called friend, to tell Affleck "not to come anywhere near the house, but he wouldn't listen to her."
Affleck did visit Garner's house the day after his sobriety slip, but it was nothing like the tabloid claims. For starters, the actress has always been supportive and complimentary of Affleck as a father, even before he got sober in August 2018. In June 2018, just a couple months before Garner staged an intervention for Affleck, she wrote a touching Father's Day tribute on Instagram, praising him for being a great dad. In the post, Garner wrote, "Our kids are lucky to have a dad who looks at them the way you look at them and loves them the way you love them." While the Triple Frontier star may have slipped, it certainly wasn't enough to lose the support of his ex-wife.
Just five days after his relapse last month, Affleck was photographed with Garner, smiling and laughing at their kids' school for Halloween. The actor later spent the evening with Garner and the kids at a Halloween party in Malibu. The tabloid, of course, fails to mention any of this. Instead, it just made up a fanciful story not based on any facts. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a spokesperson for Affleck, someone who's authorized to speak on his behalf, as opposed to the alleged "friend" the tabloid quoted. The actor's rep confirms the story isn't true.
It's not shocking that NW is so wrong on this one, as the outlet is knows very little about the relationship between the ex-spouses. In August 2018, the tabloid published a story claiming Garner was taking Affleck back for the sake of their children. The couple had been separated for almost three years at that point. This false reporting came at a terrible time, as it would only be a matter of days before Garner would hold that intervention and take Affleck to a recovery center. The couple then finalized their divorce in October 2018. NW has no insight into Garner and Affleck's relationship at all.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
