Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are not "back together" after a supposed "marriage and rehab ultimatum," despite a new tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can debunk the report. Though Affleck is getting treatment for alcoholism, he and Garner are not reconciling romantically.
But the new cover of OK! falsely announces, "Jen & Ben Back Together!" Inside the issue, it's alleged that after "convincing" Affleck to return to rehab, Garner has "agreed to give their marriage another shot." A so-called "source" is quoted as saying that when the actress recently staged an intervention, "she promised him if he gets sober they'll renew their vows in a private, yet romantic, ceremony and become a family again."
The magazine contends that was "just the motivation" Affleck needed, with the untraceable tipster asserting, "Ben realized that he's no good on his own and that he wants his old life back. He wants to be with Jen." This alleged insider goes on to claim that Garner also "can't let go," and has "always wanted to stick it out" because she "loves him and feels she owes it to her kids to make things work with their dad."
"Ben wants to be a family again and is thrilled that Jen agrees," the outlet's "source" further alleges, adding, "He's telling friends he finally got his wife back." But he doesn't. It's already been reported that Garner and Affleck have finalized their divorce settlement, and plan to sign it once he leaves rehab. That's the opposite of renewing their vows. In fact, in a piece earlier this week about Affleck dealing with his sobriety, E! Online reported, "They both want to move on."
Us Weekly also reported last week that Garner doesn't agree with a lot of Affleck's decisions, and "other than his sobriety issues, she's not going to involve herself." Additionally, while the tabloid and its "source" maintain Garner has "already started bringing some of Ben's belongings back over to her house," the featured pictures of moving trucks are actually from one day before he went to rehab, and are believed to have been there to remove some of Lindsay Shookus' belongings following their breakup. Significantly, there are no photos of the moving trucks at Garner's nearby home.
The publication, of course, has a history outright misleading readers when it comes to the former couple. In April, for example, OK! claimed Garner might be pregnant with Affleck's baby. Gossip Cop rightly busted that cover story when it came out, and time has proven she's not pregnant at all. The outlet also manufactured a similar cover story about Garner being pregnant with twins in April of 2017. The tabloid has repeatedly tried to make fans think the couple has reunited, but it's never been true.
It's still not true now. A Garner confidante, who declined to speak on the record, even tells Gossip Cop that this new cover story about getting back together amid Affleck's trip to rehab, is "total lies." And just as the passage of time proved the magazine's past claims wrong, it will do so again here.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
