Jennifer Aniston mocks the tabloids in a new interview. The actress calls out a number of untrue "assumptions" the gossip media has made about her. She even specifically references a rumor that Gossip Cop recently debunked.
Aniston's interview was conducted with her longtime friend, Molly McNearney, who amusingly begins by saying, "I want to start this interview off light. When are you getting back together with Brad [Pitt]? Did Justin [Theroux] ever wear your jeans? And when are the twins due?" McNearney praises her pal for staying "poised and balanced even while others desperately try to tell your story for you," which prompts Aniston to admit, "For the most part I can sit back and laugh at the ridiculous headlines because they have gotten more and more absurd. I guess they're feeding into some sort of need the public has."
Asked about the "biggest misconception," the "Friends" star responds, "Oh, boy, there are so many. Let's see. I'll just Google myself and find out." Upon seeing the search results, Aniston exclaims, "Oh, look, I'm having a $100,000 revenge makeover!" She goes on to tell McNearney, "It's pretty crazy. The misconceptions are 'Jen can't keep a man,' and 'Jen refuses to have a baby because she's selfish and committed to her career.' Or that I'm sad and heartbroken." She maintains, "First, with all due respect, I'm not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what's going on behind closed doors."
Gossip Cop wholeheartedly understands Aniston's candid In Style comments. We debunked the New Idea article in June that wrongly peddled claims about Aniston getting a $100,000 revenge makeover in the wake of her breakup with Theroux. The tabloids have also falsely impregnated her with twins so many times, Gossip Cop long ago made a photo gallery of fabricated OK! covers on this topic. More recently, we observed that nine months had passed since that same magazine insisted Aniston was pregnant with a "miracle baby." And less than a month ago, we busted New Idea for wrongly alleging Aniston was "finally pregnant."
And there have been more rumors about Aniston and Pitt in the last eight months than Gossip Cop can count. In fact, just last week we separated what's fact and what's fiction on entirely bogus claims about the exes getting engaged and marrying again. The problem is just as Aniston said: The tabloids don't know "what's going on behind closed doors," but like to give readers the false impression that they do. This is why Gossip Cop exists, to hold these untruthful outlets accountable and let readers transparently know what's real and what's rumor. We're happy Aniston spoke out, and hope more celebrities follow her lead.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is accurate to the best of our ability.
