Reese Witherspoon has not ditched Jennifer Aniston to become closer friends with Kerry Washington, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. We're told there's no truth to it.
According to Star, Aniston and Witherspoon have grown apart since working together on their upcoming Apple series, "The Morning Show." An alleged insider tells the magazine that Witherspoon is instead buddying up to Washington, her co-star and co-producer on the upcoming Hulu series "Little Fires Everywhere."
"Reese and Kerry have so much in common - they're both these type-A, supermom personalities juggling 25 things at once," says the supposed source, adding that Witherspoon and Aniston "have always been pals, but in working together it became clear that they really had nothing in common." The suspicious tipster continues, "All Jen brings to the table is yoga and weekend getaways, and Reese is so over it."
The seemingly phony insider further contends that Witherspoon feels she can't talk to Aniston about navigating Hollywood as a mom, whereas Washington - who has two young children - "totally gets it." The questionable source goes on to say that Witherspoon has been phasing Aniston out of her circle, but "Jen only recently realized she's been cut out, and she's furious." The anonymous tipster concludes, "It's not her fault she doesn't have the 'mom experience' you apparently need to be friends with Reese."
The outlet's premise is coming from an untraceable and possibly imaginary "insider," but Gossip Cop reached out to Aniston's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it's "absolutely false." The "Friends" star's rep, who's qualified to speak on her behalf, assures us she and Witherspoon "are great friends" and have been close for nearly two decades. Witherspoon didn't suddenly decide to stop associating with Aniston because she doesn't have kids. That notion is simply absurd.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time a tabloid has attempted to create nonexistent tension between the longtime friends. Back in March, Gossip Cop busted Star's sister publication, Life & Style, for falsely claiming Aniston and Witherspoon were feuding on the set of "The Morning Show."
Prior to that, Gossip Cop called out the magazine's other sister outlet, OK!, for wrongly reporting that Aniston and Witherspoon were battling over equal pay for their TV series. This latest article seems to have been concocted simply because Witherspoon is working alongside Washington on her next project. Their collaboration has nothing to do with Aniston, who hasn't been shunned from any social circles.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
