Jennifer Aniston, broke the record for the fastest Instagram account to reach a million followers when she joined this year. Matthew McConaughey, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and others made the plunge as well. Gossip Cop put together a list of the biggest names to join the social media site this year.
With the debut of Apple TV+ and Aniston's new show, The Morning Show, the actress finally joined Instagram in October. She was, of course, an immediate hit. The former Friends star "broke the internet" by gaining one million followers in just over five hours before her page crashed. That is the record for the fastest account to ever reach a million. It was a record set earlier this year by another entry on Gossip Cop's list. Aniston's first post? A selfie of her and the rest of her friends, of course.
McConaughey didn't break Aniston's record to a million followers when he joined Instagram in November, but the laid back Texan still made a big splash when he posted for the first time. Instead of simple photo, the Dazed & Confused star posted a short video explaining how he hoped to use the account. McConaughey admitted he is nervous about sharing his personal life and views, but in the weeks since, he's had no problem posting some of his favorite things, like Texas Longhorn football, his charity work and Woody Harrelson.
Before Aniston got to one million follows in five hours, that record was held by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It took the royal couple just five hours, 45 minutes to get there. The Sussexes' first post was a simple announcement: "Official Instagram for their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex." Prince Harry and Markle since used the account to promote their various charitable endeavors. Oh, and of course, they also announced the birth of their first son, Archie, in May.
Okay, he might not exactly be "A-List" but the husband of Real Housewives Of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice joining the 'Gram was still a big moment. Joe was released from prison after three and a half years and deported to Italy this year. When he got there, he joined Instagram. He's kept things pretty tame on his feed, with lots of pictures of the scenery and food (it is Italy after all) as well as some family shots mixed in with a few of him working out. He has used his account for other reasons though: flirting with his wife on her account. Rumors of Joe and Teresa's impending divorce seem less and less likely.
K-pop sensation Kang Daniel was the first to set the record to the fastest to a million followers when he joined Instagram on January 1. It took the former Wanna One star just 11 and a half hours to reach the milestone. Though he would only hold record for a few months, just setting the record is impressive enough.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is accurate to the best of our ability.
