Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd never dated, despite an inaccurate report about the actress's love life during her time starring on "Friends" in the '90s. Gossip Cop can debunk the romance rumors. A rep for the actress confirms she and Rudd were never an item, and the timeline of their relationships during that era proves it.
A new headline on the website Digital Spy reads, "'Friends' fans are just realizing Jennifer Aniston dated three of her co-stars." One of the co-stars listed is Brad Pitt, who appeared on one episode of the series in 2001. Aniston and Pitt were already married at this point, so it's a bit disingenuous to describe him as a "co-star" she "dated." Still, it's technically true.
The second "Friends" co-star listed by the outlet is Tate Donovan, who Aniston dated from 1995-1998. The actor played Aniston's love interest on several episodes of Season 4, which aired in '98. This is another example of someone who was already in a relationship with Aniston by the time they appeared on the show. Still, Gossip Cop will acknowledge it technically counts.
The website, however, goes totally off track when it states, "It's also pretty common knowledge that Aniston also dated Paul Rudd, when they worked together on a film called The Object of My Affection." Rudd played the boyfriend of Lisa Kudrow's character on "Friends" from 2002-2004. Only, it's certainly not "common knowledge" that Aniston and Rudd dated considering they never did.
Filming on The Object of My Affection, which was released in '98, took place from June to July 1997. Aniston was still in relationship with Donovan during that time. The pair split just months before the release of the film the following year. Meanwhile, Rudd revealed in a 2011 Elle interview that he and his wife Julie Yaeger had been together for 16 years. This would mean they started dating sometime in 1995, well before he and Aniston shot their movie. In fact, Yaeger accompanied Rudd to the premiere of the film in April '98.
Despite the site's article not making sense chronologically, Gossip Cop still checked in with Aniston's rep, who tells us on the record that the actress "did not date" Rudd. The two have been friendly for a long time and reunited for the 2011 comedy Wanderlust. Aniston happened to have met Justin Theroux on the set of that film. As for Rudd, the actress's relationship with the actor has always been friendly and professional.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
