A tabloid claims Jennifer Aniston and the rest of the “Friends” cast are concerned about Matthew Perry’s sobriety and are considering staging an intervention for him. The story is totally made-up. Gossip Cop can correct it.

Last month, photos emerged of Perry looking a bit disheveled while taking a stroll in New York City. According to NW, the actor’s “Friends” co-stars were disturbed by his appearance and might step in to help him. “Nobody would be surprised if [the ‘Friends’ stars] intervene and send him back to rehab,” says a supposed source, adding that Aniston is “leading the charge.”

“They know how he’s struggled with sobriety,” maintains the anonymous insider. “If he isn’t sober, they’re discussing whether to stage an intervention for him.” The alleged tipster goes on to say that Perry’s “troubles are one of the reasons why the ‘Friends’ reunion has stalled yet again.” In reality, a “Friends” reunion has never been in the works.

The tabloid’s premise is based on claims from an unidentified and possibly fictitious “source,” but Gossip Cop reached out to Perry’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record it’s untrue. Despite what the outlet’s so-called “insider” says, the actor’s own rep confirms his “Friends” co-stars haven’t attempted to stage an intervention for him.

It’s worth noting, Perry has been very open about his past issues with substance abuse, but there’s nothing to indicate he’s currently having problems. The actor was simply photographed looking slightly unkempt while taking a casual walk in New York. NW decided to turn the situation into a piece of fan fiction involving Perry’s “Friends” co-stars.

Additionally, this bogus storyline isn’t original. Back in January, Gossip Cop called out RadarOnline for falsely claiming Aniston and her “Friends” co-stars were sending Perry to rehab. That didn’t happen. Back in September, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for making up a story about Aniston asking Brad Pitt to help Perry get sober.

Shortly before that, Gossip Cop debunked a story in the Globe which contended that Aniston and her “Friends” co-stars were staging an intervention for Perry. Simply put, we’ve been correcting different variations of this narrative for quite some time.

It’s also worth noting, Gossip Cop busted NW last year for wrongly reporting that Aniston had convinced the cast of “Friends” to do a reunion, which was “days away from being announced.” As time has proven, no reunion was “announced” and it’s still not close to happening. The unreliable outlet clearly knows very little about anyone involved in this article.
