With Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's breakup still fresh in the celebrity news world, the rumor mill remains in overdrive. The pair even predicted this would happen when they announced their separation last week. Now Gossip Cop can separate fact from fiction on Aniston and Theroux's split for the second time.
FICTION: Brad Pitt shared his reaction to Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's split, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: The website claimed to know what Pitt "really thinks" about his ex-wife's breakup and, ironically, alleged "he wants to be left out of it all." The blog maintained the actor was "not happy" to have his name linked to Aniston and wanted to "avoid" the situation. But while it's true he has no real involvement in the split, a rep for Pitt told Gossip Cop this story was "fabricated." No one legitimately close to him shared any kind of reaction.
FICTION: Jennifer Aniston split from Justin Theroux over his "other woman," according to the National Enquirer.
FACT: The supermarket tabloid alleged the couple was driven apart by Aniston repeatedly accusing "The Leftovers" star of "cheating" on her. It was claimed Theroux tried to secretly stay in touch with his ex-girlfriend, Heidi Bivens, which the "Friends" star counted as infidelity. But a rep for Theroux told Gossip Cop it was "absolutely false" that Bivens and cheating had anything to do with the separation. Furthermore, these contentions were actually recycled word-for-word from debunked stories that were originally peddled in 2012 and 2016.
FICTION: Brad Pitt is giving Jennifer Aniston a "shoulder to cry on" amid her split from Justin Theroux, according to In Touch.
FACT: The gossip magazine claimed Pitt and Aniston "met up" in person for him to console her as her relationship with Theroux fell apart. It was asserted that the actress provided "comfort and strength" for Pitt after his breakup with Angelina Jolie, and now he was returning the "favor." But no meet-up ever took place. In fact, Gossip Cop originally busted this allegation when it originally came out in December. It wasn't all of a sudden true now that the outlet was repeating it in February.
FICTION: Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are "bonding like never before" during her problems with Justin Theroux, according to Life & Style.
FACT: This assertion was first concocted by In Touch, and then spread online by its sister publication in January. Though it was disputed in both of those instances, the tabloid now regurgitated the claim that Pitt was "helping" Aniston to capitalize on the interest in her split from Theroux. But Pitt was never assisting Aniston before, during or after her breakup with Theroux. He "doesn't have anything to do" with his former wife's love life, a Pitt confidante told Gossip Cop.
FICTION: Jennifer Aniston was upset Justin Theroux "cuddled" Naomi Watts, according to the Daily Mail.
FACT: The paper alleged an embrace between Theroux and Watts in January 2017 was the "final straw" for Aniston, even though they only recently split. It was claimed Aniston was "far from happy" over the former co-stars and longtime friends "hugging" at an event. This, however, was another recycled allegation. The National Enquirer first manufactured this storyline a year ago, and it was now being dredged up as a possible explanation for Aniston and Theroux's breakup. But Gossip Cop was told the suggestion that Watts played a role in torpedoing the romance was "false."
When Aniston and Theroux released a joint statement announcing their separation, they rightly noted how the "the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent." The aforementioned phony stories are proof of that. The stars also stressed, "Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative." Fans would do well to remember that. Going forward, Gossip Cop will continue to distinguish what's real and what's rumor as appropriate.
