A new report suggests Jennifer Aniston is freaked out by Justin Theroux's "thing" with Selena Gomez. Gossip Cop, however, can correct the claim which is neither true nor original. We're been told the story is "silly."
According to the National Enquirer, Aniston is in "a tizzy" over Theroux's friendship with Gomez. And to back-up its manufactured premise, the supermarket tabloid trots out an unnamed and untraceable source who conveniently states, "Jen finds Justin's 'creeping on' Selena unsettling because of the age difference." Not surprisingly, the outlet offers no evidence of how the actor is supposedly "creeping on" Gomez.
From there, the magazine notes that Theroux insists there's nothing "weird" going on between him and the young singer, and that he's simply been there for "support" for Gomez ever since her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, got engaged and married to Hailey Baldwin. The anonymous and seemingly fabricated "source" concludes, "[Theroux] likes to think he's Selena's 'rescuer'... but she's not likely to let that ruin her friendship with Jen."
That's the entirety of the tabloid's article. Glaringly, there's no talk or evidence that Theroux's friendship with Gomez "freaks" Aniston out or that it's left her in "a tizzy." Essentially, the magazine threw out a lot facts, such as Gomez and Theroux being platonic pals, and Bieber and Baldwin having wed, and mixed it all up together to create a non-linear and nonsensical story about Aniston getting bent out of shape by her ex and the young actress being acquaintances.
While writing up this article, something seemed vaguely familiar, and to Gossip Cop's surprise we realized the same tabloid had concocted another tall tale about Gomez, Theroux, and Aniston almost exactly one year ago to the date. In that phony report, it was alleged Gomez was betraying Aniston with Theroux. The gist of that piece was how in the wake of his and Aniston's divorce announcement, Gomez was hanging out with Theroux. The truth, however, was that the two stars went with a group of other actors to an off-Broadway show with their mutual manager, Aleen Keshishian, who also happens to represent Aniston.
The tired trope involving Aniston, Theroux, and Gomez has been going on for years. Shortly after the couple separated, for example, Gossip Cop busted a publication for falsely maintaining Theroux was hitting on Gomez after his split from Aniston. Not long after that, we corrected another outlet that untruthfully asserted Aniston was upset with Gomez for siding with Theroux. And Gossip Cop debunked an absurd tale about Aniston supposedly being "furious" over rumors that Gomez and Theroux were dating.
Of course, none of those stories were true. In the past, Aniston's rep has assured Gossip Cop that the former "Friends" star was not hurt, threatened, or upset in any manner by Theroux and Gomez's casual friendship. The spokesperson previously called those reports "silly." And that remains the case to this day, particularly with the Enquirer's latest work of fiction about Aniston being freaked out by Theroux's non-"thing" with Gomez.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
