Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux‘s marriage did not end during a trip to Paris in 2017, despite a new claim. A tabloid is pretending to have insight on the breakup by regurgitating an old, debunked report. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
On its website, the National Enquirer blares in a headline, “Foreign Affairs! Jennifer Aniston’s Ex Back In Paris — Where Their Marriage Ended.” With Theroux currently in Paris, the gossip magazine alleges the French capital is where their relationship “fell apart.” But neither Aniston nor Theroux were in France before their split was announced last month.
Rather, this story is based on time the couple spent in Paris last spring. In reality, Aniston and Theroux packed on the PDA while there in April 2017. But now the outlet claims their time in the romantic city nearly a year ago led to their separation in February 2018. The publication maintains the “Paris getaway had gone wrong… over accusations of cheating,” and “things soon fell apart as a jealous Jennifer went on the warpath.”
It’s specifically claimed the “vacation became a nightmare” following a “blowout fight” over Theroux’s co-star Olivia Munn. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Gossip Cop busted Star for making those same inaccurate allegations in a cover story last year. The tabloid contended Aniston left Theroux following a fight over Munn while in Paris. At the time, a rep for the actor actually told us the report was “hilarious” because it was so untrue. Yet sister outlet National Enquirer is now regurgitating the quotes from that 11-month-old article to support its premise that the (nonexistent) dispute precipitated the demise of the couple’s relationship.
At the risk of repeating ourselves, Gossip Cop wants to be clear: The publication is alleging Aniston and Theroux’s marriage “ended” in Paris in April of 2017 because of an argument over Munn, even though they actually remained together and did not announce their separation until February of 2018. It’s obvious why the supermarket tabloid is peddling such a far-fetched premise. Simply, because Theroux is now in Paris and his split from Aniston remains a hot topic, the magazine decided to connect his current trip to one from nearly a year ago.
The outlet even ends its piece by stating, “With his marriage to Jennifer now headed to divorce court, Justin’s wasted no time in getting back to his favorite vacation spot.” Of course, there’s no indication that Theroux’s visit right now has anything to do with his breakup with Aniston. But it’s apparent that the publication has been digging into its archives to appear knowledgeable about the split.
Right after the separation was announced last month, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for alleging Theroux and Aniston broke up over his “other woman.” That claim about their divorce in 2018 was based on discredited stories originally published in 2012 and 2016. Notably, nothing was said then about the marriage actually ending in Paris in 2017. It’s abundantly clear the tabloid is just trying to exploit the situation with old, unsubstantiated content, regardless of accuracy or consistency.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
