One of this week’s tabloids claims Jennifer Aniston “can’t escape” Justin Theroux because they’re both tied to the death that occurred during their 2015 honeymoon. The report is inaccurate on several levels. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.
In August 2015, the spouses invited several of their friends and family members to help celebrate their honeymoon in Bora Bora. One of the guests was movie producer Joel Silver, whose 28-year-old personal assistant, Carmel Musgrove, tragically drowned in a lagoon during the trip. The late woman’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Silver, and the case is still ongoing.
According to NW, Aniston is upset that the lawsuit has yet to be settled because she feels it’s the last thing “tying her” to Theroux. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Jen desperately wants this tragic situation resolved as soon as possible… The longer this case goes on, the longer she’ reminded of her failed relationship with Justin, given that it all happened on their honeymoon.”
The outlet’s supposed source goes on to say that Aniston and Theroux may be headed for an “uncomfortable reunion” if they’re called in as witnesses. “They may have to face a deposition, which would mean they’d be stuck in a stuffy attorney’s office together,” adds the questionable tipster. “But that’s the last thing either of them wants.”
The main problem with the tabloid’s premise is that Aniston and Theroux had left Bora Bora several days before Musgrove’s death. The estranged spouses aren’t “witnesses” because they weren’t on the island when the tragedy occurred. If for some reason they did have to give testimony in the case, it’s unlikely the two would have to “reunite” in order to do it. A lawyer would likely want hear each of their stories individually.
Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with Aniston’s rep, who tells us on the record that the magazine’s story is untrue. The actress’s spokesperson further notes that the wrongful death lawsuit “has nothing to do” with the actress and her estranged husband. The magazine is simply exploiting a tragedy in order to create a phony story surrounding Aniston and Theroux’s divorce.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time NW has involved the actress in a legal battle that has nothing to do with her. Last month, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming that Aniston was going to court with Brad Pitt to help him win back custody of his kids. This latest article is similarly fabricated.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
