Did Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have an "explosive showdown" over Brad Pitt? A new report claims the estranged spouses recently met up at her home and battled it out. Gossip Cop, however, can bust the seemingly made-up story.
As widely reported, Aniston and Theroux both attended a birthday party for Jimmy Kimmel's son earlier this month. Now New Idea is reporting that prior to the bash, the exes had an "explosive showdown as they came face-to-face for the first time in Los Angeles." The magazine specifically claims the incident went down when "Justin collected the rest of his possessions from their Bel Air mansion," where "the encounter turned ugly with Jen ending up inconsolable."
"The meeting ended up in an explosive showdown," a so-called "source" is quoted as saying, before maintaining Theroux is "angry Jen's now with Brad so soon after they split." The supposed snitch further contends, "He reminded her of her closeness to Brad and how distant he felt from her due to her renewed friendship with her ex-husband." The alleged tipster goes on to claim Theroux was joined by a "team of movers," as well as a "member of his legal team," and that "Jen broke down when she saw how cold and official Justin was being."
Amid the purported dispute, the magazine alleges Jimmy Kimmel and wife Molly McNearney gave Aniston and Theroux separate "time slots" to ensure they didn't "clash" at their son's birthday party, which only further upset the actress. "[They] were always Jen's friends first and foremost, so she felt incredibly betrayed knowing they'd not only invited Justin but given them shifts to adhere to," contends the purported insider, who claims Aniston was in a "terrible state" when she arrived and believed her pals "were taking sides and talking about her behind her back."
The outlet's questionable "source" adds, "Jen's fuming with Justin and their face-to-face meeting... only made things worse, and she's out to get justice for how he's treated her." In fact, the publication asserts Aniston "plans to ruin his reputation and bring him down," and that their divorce is "set to be one of the worst Hollywood has ever seen." Notably, though, not one reputable media outlet has reported anything about Aniston and Theroux having an "ugly" breakup and being "at each other's throats," as maintained here. Nor has any credible publication similarly alleged they recently had a "showdown" that left Aniston wanting "revenge."
It's also telling that it's not said just how she supposedly plans to "ruin" Theroux's reputation and "bring him down." There's also a blatant falsehood: Aniston is not "now with" Pitt nor do they have a "renewed friendship" that interfered with her marriage. On the contrary, their reps have confirmed to Gossip Cop on multiple occasions that they have not and are not reconciling. People also reported that Aniston and Pitt haven't seen one another in a long time and "aren't in regular contact." It makes no sense then to allege she and Aniston had a "showdown" over her ex-husband.
It should also be noted that in a story on Aniston and Theroux both being at the Kimmel event, People said Aniston is "doing well." That belies the premise that Aniston is "inconsolable." They did attend the function at different times, but that wasn't because of a "showdown" or their pals choosing sides.
Gossip Cop is also told on the record by Theroux's rep that this supposed "showdown" never happened. And considering the claim is coming from the same tabloid that falsely alleged Aniston was pregnant and adopting last fall, its sketchy reporting is not to be trusted.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
