Are Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts feuding? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the supposed drama and we can exclusively set the record straight.
Both actresses are starring on upcoming TV shows, and according to the National Enquirer, they're battling over whose series will be a bigger hit. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "They may have been buddies once - but now that they're in direct competition with new TV shows, things have grown incredibly tense."
The outlet's questionable source goes on to say the actresses are "going head-to-head and neither wants to lose." The tabloid's premise, however, is completely flawed. Roberts' show "Homecoming" debuts next month on Amazon, while Aniston has yet to begin shooting her series, which will debut on Apple TV sometime next year. The two projects aren't going "head-to-head" in any capacity.
Additionally, both shows will be released on streaming services, meaning viewers can watch anytime they want. It's not as if Aniston and Roberts have shows competing on the the same day and time slot. As noted above, Roberts' TV series debuts in November, and Aniston hasn't even started working on hers yet.
The tabloid's story gets even more faulty when it quotes its "source" as saying that Aniston and Roberts "were very frosty with each other at this year's Emmys." There's one major issue with this claim: neither actress attended the 2018 Emmy Awards. The magazine's article is poorly-researched, in addition to being fictional.
Despite the tabloid's story being illogical and riddled with factual errors, Gossip Cop still checked in with Aniston's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it's completely untrue. The outlet's report is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent "insider," but a rep qualified to speak on the actress's behalf dismisses it as nonsense.
The Enquirer wants its readers to believe that Aniston and Roberts are feuding because both actresses happen to be starring on new TV shows. Their respective projects aren't even being released in the same year. Using the magazine's logic, the two are also at war with every single other performer on television. In reality, the two actresses are very friendly. Earlier this year, Aniston and Roberts posed together at a charity benefit hosted by Chanel and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The actresses also co-starred together in the 2016 comedy Mother's Day, and Aniston admitted she felt "intimidated" by Roberts while shooting the movie, despite the two being pals. "It's just a different thing when you get to work with [a friend] and then you're doing what you both do, [but] together," the actress told "Entertainment Tonight." "I even flubbed in the first take and called her Julia!" There's simply no feud between the two stars.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
