One of this week’s tabloids claims Hollywood celebrities are being forced to choose sides in an alleged feud between Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts. The story is ridiculous and based on a premise that Gossip Cop already debunked. We can once again set the record straight.

Last week, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for falsely claiming that Aniston and Roberts were feuding over who’s upcoming TV series would be a bigger hit. Not only did a rep for Aniston dismiss the story as nonsense, but it didn’t make much sense. Roberts’ new show “Homecoming” debuts on Amazon next month, while Aniston hasn’t started shooting her untitled series, which will debut on Apple TV sometime next year. The actress’s projects aren’t in competition with one another.

Unfortunately, NW has decided to add fuel to the nonexistent fire. The magazine quotes an alleged “insider” as saying, “Jen and Julia have known each other for 20 years and even worked together from time to time, but that doesn’t mean they like each other. And now that they’re in direct competition with their new TV shows, it’s gotten really tense.” Once again, there’s no “direct competition” here. The tabloid makes it sound as if Roberts and Aniston’s shows will be airing the same night on competing networks. The shows aren’t even debuting the same year, and both will be on streaming services, meaning viewers can watch at any time.

Still, the magazine’s “source” goes on to say that the actress’s supposed rift has “become awkward for all of their mutual friends,” including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow. “If it comes to choosing sides, they’d probably be on Jen’s,” adds the questionable tipster. “And so would Courteney Cox. Jen is always having her girlfriends over, and she’s just closer to them than Julia is.”

As for the stars who would be in Roberts’ corner, the suspicious insider says, “Even though George Clooney always tries to keep the peace with everyone and considers himself a good friend to them both, his friendship with Julia is stronger and he’d be loyal to her. It would be the same case for Meryl Streep.” The seemingly phony source concludes, “Julia and Jen are pursuing the same set of goals and are desperate for their shows to be major hits. The only people who are standing in their way are each other.”

Gossip Cop has already explained why this story is completely illogical, and Aniston’s spokesperson confirms it’s fabricated. However, there’s further proof that the storyline is made-up. Earlier this week, Aniston and Roberts both attended the InStyle Awards. The event was covered by E! News, a much more reliable celebrity news outlet than the Enquirer and NW. In its writeup of the awards ceremony, the outlet noted, “Jennifer spent a lot of time with Julia and they were chatting together during the intermission.”
