Jennifer Aniston is not "furious" that Justin Theroux was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" nor does she think the talk show host is taking her estranged husband's side, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can correct this report. The premise is untrue and provably wrong.
According to In Touch, Aniston "may not be guesting on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' anytime soon." The tabloid quotes a so-called "insider" as saying, "She feels betrayed because Jimmy has chosen to remain friends with Justin." The alleged source adds, "She's really upset."
The magazine maintains Theroux's appearance on Kimmel's late-night show on July 23, during which the actor promoted The Spy Who Dumped Me, was the "latest blow" between Aniston and her ex. The publication then notes how Kimmel officiated Theroux and Aniston's wedding in 2015, and while "Jimmy's alliance [is] with Justin," the host's wife, Molly McNearney, is decidedly Team Aniston. The tabloid's supposed "insider" claims McNearny told Kimmel their "loyalty should lie with Jen."
It's true McNearny's close with the former "Friends" star. As widely reported last week, Kimmel's wife conducted the InStyle interview in which Aniston mocked the tabloids and pointed out how she's "not heartbroken" these days. And while In Touch has created a scenario in which Kimmel has supposedly taken "Justin's side" over Aniston's, the reality is there are no sides and comedian is friendly with both of them.
Just a few months ago, for example, both Aniston and Theroux attended Kimmel's son Billy's first birthday party. While the two avoided being at the bash at the same time, clearly Kimmel and his wife haven't chosen one of the estranged spouses over the other. By all reports, and from what Gossip Cop also confirmed, Theroux and Aniston were equally welcomed.
And in yet another instance in which these outlets can't keep their stories straight, in complete contradiction to the tabloid's narrative, its sister outlet RadarOnline reported a few months ago that Kimmel warned Theroux about his treatment of Aniston, because it was she who the talk show host was more concerned about. In that article, the website quoted another one of its unidentified sources as saying Kimmel told Theroux "if he blows it with Jen, he's going to be on Jimmy's personal [expletive] list." The same supposed tipster maintained that Kimmel made it "very clear to Jen that he's got her back no matter what happens with Justin."
What's really happening is that Theroux is in the movie The Spy Who Dumped Me, and he and other cast members including Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon are promoting the film in TV, online and print interviews. The actor simply appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to pump up the movie and because they're pals. It had nothing to do with the host taking "Justin's side" over Aniston's. When the actress is ready to promote any of her upcoming projects, there's a good chance she'll do it on Kimmel's show, much like she has in the past.
On the topic of the past, In Touch has a questionable history with its reporting on Aniston. A little more than two weeks ago, for example, the tabloid published a wholly fictitious cover story that absurdly asserted Aniston had "just married" her ex-husband Brad Pitt in a backyard ceremony at his home. Much like that tall tale and others about the actress and Theroux, the latest involving Kimmel is also provably untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
