Did Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal go on a "secret date" in New York City last week? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. A rep for the actor, however, tells Gossip Cop it's completely untrue.
According to Woman's Day, supposed "witnesses" at the Italian restaurant Nello's spotted the actor and actress, who co-starred together in 2002's The Good Girl, enjoying a cozy dinner that "ended with a romantic kiss." An alleged "onlooker" tells the magazine, "He had his arm around her almost the entire time," before claiming the two went back to Gyllenhaal's Tribeca apartment. In other words, this "onlooker" stalked the pair and followed them home?
A so-called "pal" of Aniston's is then quoted as telling the tabloid, "There's always been chemistry between them, but it's never been the right time. Jen reached out to Jake when she knew she was going to be in New York and he immediately asked if they could arrange a dinner." The actress's "friend" further contends that "she got butterflies when he kissed her goodnight."
The seemingly made-up insider goes on to say Aniston "doesn't know if she's ready for a relationship yet," but is open "to seeing what happens" with Gyllenhaal. Meanwhile, other supposed sources suspect she hooked up with the actor to get revenge on estranged husband Justin Theroux, who's been wrongly linked to various female celebrities following their split.
This entire saga is fabricated. Aniston was spotted leaving Nello's by herself during the daytime on April 24. She went to the Italian eatery for lunch and Gyllenhaal was nowhere to be found. Considering the high-profile actress was already photographed at the restaurant, had she actually returned with the famous actor, the two very likely would have been spotted by paparazzi.
Regardless of the magazine's story being illogical, Gossip Cop has also learned it's impossible. While the tabloid is basing its whole narrative on information from "onlookers," Gyllenhaal's own spokesperson tells us he's been in Los Angeles shooting the upcoming Netflix movie Velvet Buzzsaw. The film wrapped production on April 30, so the actor and actress were on separate coasts at the time they were alleged to have shared a romantic dinner at Nello's.
Additionally, Woman's Day has proven to be very unreliable when it comes to the actress's post-split life. Gossip Cop busted the magazine last month for making up an absurd story about Aniston being pregnant with Brad Pitt's baby. This latest article involving Gyllenhaal, which fails to explain what happened to the actress's unborn child, is also bogus.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
