Is Jennifer Aniston quitting Instagram once she's done promoting her new Apple series The Morning Show? One of this week's tabloids claims the actress only joined the social media platform to promote her new TV series. Gossip Cop can debunk the untrue story.
Aniston literally broke Instagram when she created an account of couple of weeks ago, as so many people started following the actress that the app crashed. According to OK!, however, fans shouldn't expect to follow Aniston for much longer. The magazine says the Friends star is only using the platform to her professional advantage.
"Jen's very private and couldn't understand why anyone would want to reveal every detail of their lives," a supposed insider tells the outlet. "That was until [The Morning Show co-star] Reese [Witherspoon] explained she could use Instagram to promote [their TV show]." The anonymous tipster goes on to say that once she's done plugging her new TV series, "Jen will quit social media."
Although it seems likely that one of Aniston's reasons for joining Instagram was to promote The Morning Show and other projects, it certainly wasn't her sole reason and she has no intention of quitting once the show airs on November 1. It's worth noting, as of October 31, Aniston hasn't actually shared any promotional material from the series on her social media page. Sure, the very nature of joining Instagram helps drum up publicity for the project, but the actress's feed doesn't currently feature any content from The Morning Show.
Meanwhile, Aniston herself explained why she finally joined Instagram during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week. The actress noted that she used to be scared of social media, but came to realize it's usefulness. "[You can] share information, connect with your fans, right wrongs that are said about you, have fun, make fun of yourself, make fun of people. Help animals get rescued," the actress said.
It's also worth mentioning, The Morning Show has already been renewed for a second season, so does that mean Aniston plans to shut down her account and reactivate it once Season 2 rolls around? In addition to the tabloid's story not making much sense, it's also based on claims from an untraceable source. Gossip Cop ran the report by Aniston's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it's total nonsense.
This wouldn't be the first time the tabloid has pretended to have insight into the actress's career plans. Earlier this month, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for making up a story about Aniston working on a secret TV show with Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc. The outlet has also taken the opportunity to capitalize on the actress's highly-anticipated new TV series. In July, we busted the outlet for falsely claiming working on The Morning Show had ruined Aniston and Witherspoon's friendship. All of these articles about the actress are unfounded.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
