Jennifer Aniston and her fellow Friends co-stars have traditionally been very coy when answering questions about a possible reunion. Recently, however, Aniston has been more open about the idea of one. In fact, there appears to be some sort of reunion in the works, but it won’t be a conventional reboot.
Last month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the cast of the hit sitcom was in talks for a potential on-screen reunion on HBO Max. That echos what Aniston said when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last year and addressed the possibility. “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is,” Aniston said. “So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.” When People asked Aniston about the idea of some kind of reunion on HBO Max earlier this month, she said, “It’s a never ending question, isn’t it? What else could make a group of six actors feel more proud. It’s bringing people joy on a daily basis.” Aniston did say that she knew “nothing” when it comes to the specific details, but concluded by saying, “I will just continue with… we’re trying.” It’s widely believed the reunion in the works at HBO Max is a cast interview and retrospective of sorts.
All the pieces might be falling into place, but as of now, Aniston is focused on her Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show. She also had a big year with the hit Netflix comedy Murder Mystery co-starring Adam Sandler. Netflix reported that the movie had the biggest opening weekend in the streaming service’s history, with over 30 million people watching it. Still, Aniston’s fans are really clamoring to see her back in Central Perk with her friends in one way or another.
For proof of how rabid her and the show’s fan base is, look no further than Instagram. Aniston “broke the internet” when she joined the social media site in October. She became the fastest person to reach a million followers, and her feed is now followed by 21 million people. Her first post? A group photo of all six members of the Friends cast, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and, of course, Aniston, holding the phone for the selfie. To date, the post has over 15 million likes. It’s safe to say that time has not softened the fans’ desires for a reunion.
As Gossip Cop noted, it’s still unclear what kind of reunion the cast will do with HBO Max, and nothing is official yet, but it’s unlikely to be a reboot or a scripted continuation of the classic show. Naturally, the tabloids are already printing fiction about the possible reunion. Last week, Gossip Cop debunked a phony story about Perry putting a Friends reunion in jeopardy. That’s not the case, but it’s still anyone’s guess as to how the cast will reunite. One thing’s for certain – Aniston is excited about it.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is accurate to the best of our ability.
