Is Jennifer Aniston refusing to do a “Friends” reunion because she’s secretly feuding with the show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.

No one involved in the classic NBC sitcom has expressed much interest in any sort of reboot, but according to NW, the real reason the show hasn’t come back is because Aniston hates Kauffman. “Jen has a difficult relationship with Marta,” an alleged insider tells the magazine. “Jen always believed Marta took more credit that she deserved for the show’s success and steers well clear of her.”

The outlet’s questionable source adds, “Their rift became permanent in the final year of the series when Jen opted to appear in fewer episodes so she could focus on her movie career.” Only, Aniston didn’t appear in “fewer episodes” during the show’s final season. According to the official IMDB page for “Friends,” the actress appeared in all 236 episodes of the show over its 10-season run. It’s not a good sign when the information a tabloid uses to corroborate its story is provably untrue.

Regardless, the magazine’s article is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable “insider,” but Gossip Cop checked in with Aniston’s rep, who tells us on the record that it’s “absolutely false.” The actress’s spokesperson, who’s qualified to speak on her behalf, further tells us, “Jen is a huge fan of Marta and has kept in touch over the years.”

It should also be noted, although Aniston has dismissed talk of a “Friends” reunion several times over the years, she’s somewhat changed her tune as of late. When asked about the possibility of a reunion during an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in February, the actress said, “Anything is a possibility, Ellen. Anything.” In her September InStyle cover story, Aniston had even more to say on the topic. “I fantasize about it,” the actress admitted. “It really was the greatest job I ever had.”

Kauffman, on the other hand, has been much less enthusiastic about the idea. The “Friends” co-creator said in a 2016 interview with Deadline, “We’ll never do it.” Her reason being that every TV show “has a lifespan” and “there’s no reason to continue doing it just because people miss the characters.” She added, “And there’s no way it would be satisfying and it’ll never happen.” Despite the magazine’s claims, Aniston is more open to the idea of a reboot than Kauffman, not the other way around. There’s clearly no feud standing in the actress’s way of agreeing to a hypothetical reunion.
