One of this week’s tabloids claims Netflix is trying to develop a “Friends” reboot, but Jennifer Aniston keeps turning down the idea. The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can correct it.

According to In Touch, the streaming service is eager to produce a “Friends” reunion, but the actress is hesitant to sign on to the project. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Netflix, which has been working closely with Jennifer Aniston on her film Dumplin’, is getting closer to making it happen than anyone ever has.”

The supposed source continues, “They’re making the cast offers that they can’t refuse, and Jen has been the only holdout.” The questionable tipster adds, “But apparently executives at the streaming service are wearing her down, because they’re promising a quality reboot. It has to happen eventually — the entire world has been waiting for this!”

The tabloid’s article is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “insider,” but Gossip Cop checked in with Aniston’s spokesperson, who tells us it’s “made-up.” Despite what the outlet’s untraceable “source” claims, a rep qualified to speak on the actress’s behalf assures us Netflix has never approached her about a “Friends” reboot.

In fact, during a recent appearance on “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” Aniston revealed that the show’s male cast members are the ones getting in the way of a “Friends” reunion. “Listen, the girls always say we would love to do it again, and the boys are a little less excited about it for some reason,” the actress explained. Regardless of who is and isn’t on board, Gossip Cop can confirm that Netflix hasn’t pitched a “Friends” reboot to Aniston.

It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first In Touch has made up a story surrounding a reboot of the classic sitcom. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for wrongly reporting that Lisa Kudrow would be starring on a “Friends” spinoff revolving around her character. No such show was ever in the works.

Meanwhile, Gossip Cop called out the magazine’s sister publication, Star, when it falsely claimed in September that Aniston was creating a “Friends” reboot starring the grown-up kids of the original characters. That project was also imaginary. It’s been nearly 15 years since the show went off the air, and it doesn’t seem there will be a reboot or reunion happening anytime soon. If that changes, Gossip Cop will be sure to update, but the tabloids clearly have no insight into the situation.
