Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are not “racing to [a] $225 million divorce,” despite a report claiming “they’re done after just two years.” This contention remains untrue, just like every previous time it’s been falsely alleged. Gossip Cop can bust the latest made-up story.

But before we get into the specifics of this particular manufactured tale, which comes from the National Enquirer, it’s worth looking back at some of the supermarket tabloid’s previous falsehoods. In 2015, just months after the couple tied the knot, it was said Aniston wanted out of the marriage. In 2016, a cover story announced a “$170 million divorce.” And in 2017, that exact claim was repeated after Theroux innocently gave old co-star Naomi Watts a friendly hug. In fact, this past April, Theroux actually mocked these fake tabloid stories.

Now here we are again with the gossip magazine trying to pretend it has a credible report, this time pegged to a “$225 million divorce.” According to the outlet, the couple has been “secretly living apart” as they deal with “cheating allegations, drug charges, lies and jealousy.” A so-called “friend” is quoted as “tattling,” “Jen and Justin tried their best to make it work but it was just too hard. Now they’re both ready to move on.” The publication predicts a “nasty split, with Jennifer prepared to fight ugly if the ‘Leftovers’ hunk targets her bank account.” It’s also warned that Aniston “could air their dirty laundry in divorce papers to protect her assets.”

“Jennifer wants to end this quickly and quietly. But if Justin puts up a fight, like asking for spousal support, she’s going to hit him hard,” the supposed “pal” contends. But no real person would go from referring to “Jen” to “Jennifer” to “Jen” again as done in the quotes here. And to try to give credence to these claims, the specious snitch throws out a bunch of unsubstantiated assertions, such as Aniston allegedly being “deeply uncomfortable” over Theroux’s “closeness” with Emma Stone and the actor supposedly hiding past drug use from her. There’s also regurgitated allegations about career friction and arguments over where to live. The “friend” eventually concludes, “No one would be surprised if they file for divorce by New Year’s!”

Actually, the real surprise would be if they did. While Aniston and Theroux’s marriage may seem unconventional because of the amount of time they spend apart, it’s what works for them. But tabloids like this one try to exploit that, wrongly alleging over and over again that there’s a rift in their relationship. Yet, just days ago, Aniston showed she and Theroux have a rather normal home life. There’s nothing nearly as scandalous going on as gossip stories like this try to imply, and that’s why they haven’t actually divorced any of the times the National Enquirer has said they would. Reps for both sides also confirm there’s no merit to this latest split tale.
