Is Jennifer Aniston desperately trying to find a date for this year's Oscars? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
"Jen's Plea For A Plus-One" reads a headline in the latest issue of Life & Style. The accompanying article says the actress doesn't want to go solo to the Academy Awards or any of the ceremony's afterparties, so she's on the hunt for some "eye-pleasing army candy" to accompany her.
A supposed source tells the magazine that Aniston "is dreading the thought of walking the red carpet alone," so she's enlisted famous pals like Courteney Cox, Jimmy Kimmel and Jason Bateman to help her find a date. "Jen knows that whomever she chooses, the gossip will be relentless, but she's actually OK with that," adds the outlet's alleged insider. "Her reason is that if she goes alone, they'll still talk... so why not give them something to talk about!" From there, the tabloid attempts to play matchmaker by suggesting that Aniston hit the afterparty scene with Jon Hamm, Scott Eastwood or even former flame John Mayer.
The magazine's phony story is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable tipster. Gossip Cop, however, reached out to Aniston's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it's false. In fact, the actress's rep says, "As of now, she's not going [to the Oscars]." Aniston's spokesperson noted "there's always a possibility" she'll show up at the awards show or one of its afterparties, but she's not planning to attend at this time. Regardless, we're assured she's not frantically trying to find a date for the ceremony.
Additionally, the idea that the former "Friends" star feels she needs a man by her side is simply baseless. "Entertainment Tonight," a much more reliable source for celebrity news than Life & Style, recently published an article about Aniston's "perfectly happy single life." The outlet noted how she "feels more centered than ever because she's not dating anyone and she's perfectly happy." People magazine has similarly reported that Aniston "isn't concerned about dating."
It's worth noting, Life & Style constantly makes up stories about the actress's post-split love life. Around two months ago, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for falsely claiming that the only reason Aniston attended Leonardo DiCaprio's 44th birthday party was to find a boyfriend. Shortly before that, the publication wrongly reported Amal Clooney was "playing matchmaker" for Aniston. This latest article surrounding the upcoming Oscars is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
