Is Jennifer Aniston reentering the dating world? A new report claims she's asking best friend Courteney Cox to set her up. But Gossip Cop can bust the story.

The new issue of Closer features the headline, "Jen Tells Courteney: 'I'm Ready For You To Set Me Up.'" That quote, of course, is fabricated. But the story claims Aniston hasn't just been "leaning on" Cox for support in the wake of her split from Justin Theroux. It's alleged, "She's enlisted the help of her former 'Friends' co-star to help her find love again, too."

The tabloid contends Aniston's "decision to move on has been triggered by seeing pictures of her estranged husband partying with a string of women." A so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "It's spurred her to get back on the dating scene and she's asked Courteney to help set her up with someone." In response, the supposed snitch asserts Cox is "absolutely thrilled to be on the lookout for a new love interest for Jen."

The magazine's alleged tipster claims Cox has "already lined up some potential suitors, including a Hollywood talent agent that Jen has met before, a film director and someone well-known in the music industry." Tellingly, none of these people are named. As for Aniston's preferences, the outlet maintains she's "only interested in dating mature men who are serious about being in a committed relationship." Adds the purported snitch, "She's not looking for a fairy tale."

That comment is noteworthy because in March, this same publication claimed friends were urging Aniston and Brad Pitt to get back together for a "fairy tale ending." Nothing is mentioned about the former spouses reuniting in this piece. The new article also doesn't say anything about Aniston spending time with Gerard Butler, which was another false contention in that previous story. It's also worth recognizing that the premise of this latest report isn't even original.

Nearly four months ago Life & Style similarly alleged Aniston's friends were looking to set up her, including Cox. But the truth was that the actress didn't have any interest in dating yet then, and that's still the case now. People even reported just last week that Aniston is "very happy being single" and "focused on her own happiness."

Also, she doesn't exactly have time to embark on a new relationship right now, anyway. Aniston is currently filming a new comedy with Adam Sandler in Montreal, which would make going on dates in L.A. a bit difficult. That's not acknowledged in the story, which makes Gossip Cop question how informed is the tabloid's "source." It seems not well-informed at all. In fact, while the magazine is hiding behind an untraceable "source," Aniston's own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record that its claims are a "fabrication."

Conclusion: Closer claims Aniston wants Cox to set her up on dates, but both Gossip Cop and People have already reported that she is not interested in dating right now. And, due to career obligations in Canada, the star is not focusing on her love life in Los Angeles. This misguided story is based on a single anonymous "source," and comes from the same outlet that peddled nonsense about Aniston being involved with Pitt and Butler earlier this year. As Aniston's rep also helps make clear, it is apparent this tale is just as made-up and inaccurate as those were.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
