If fans of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are relying on the International Business Times for news on the stars, they might be confused. Just one day apart, the site published conflicting stories about the exes going on a trip with Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh. Gossip Cop can explain the problem in detail.

On Sunday, New Idea published a cover story in which it falsely claimed Aniston and Pitt were on an Italian getaway, joined by Shiloh. It was 100 percent fabricated. Our fact-check pointed out that on top of the exes not reuniting romantically, they haven’t even been on the same continent in recent weeks. Aniston was in Europe filming Murder Mystery, while Pitt was based in Los Angeles as he shot Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The article wasn’t just wrong, but implausible.

Initially, International Business Times (IBT) seemed to realize this. Upon seeing our debunking, the website announced in a headline on Monday, “The Truth About Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston Enjoying Vacation With Shiloh.” The article began, “Just days after rumors about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s ‘honeymoon in Italy’ were debunked, another report claims the alleged couple is enjoying a romantic trip with Shiloh, the actor’s daughter with former wife Angelina Jolie. However, Gossip Cop rejected the ‘false’ report of any such trip to Italy.”

Gossip Cop appreciates the citation, which included a link to our bust. But how to explain, then, what IBT published on Tuesday? Here the outlet asks in a headline, “Jennifer Aniston vacationing in Italy with Brad Pitt and his daughter Shiloh?” In this version, the site regurgitates the bogus New Idea story at length, without acknowledging the entire premise is factually inaccurate. And at no point does this post address that the rumor has already been shot down in part by IBT itself.

Instead, the piece concludes, “Meanwhile, there are many reports claiming a reunion between Pitt and Aniston. However, fans of the former couple will have to wait and watch for any rekindled romance.” No, they don’t have to “wait and watch.” It’s been readily apparent for months and months that a “reunion between Pitt and Aniston” is highly “unlikely,” as People put it in February. And since then, there have been no indications whatsoever of a “rekindled romance.” In fact, just as Aniston left L.A. for the Murder Mystery shoot, her pal Portia de Rossi confirmed she and Pitt hadn’t seen each other. That hasn’t changed.

So the problem here is two-fold: IBT is not only spreading misinformation, but doing so after first actually sharing the “truth.” This is a bizarre case of the left hand apparently not knowing what the right is doing. And while it may have something to do with the International Business Times having different region-based editions comprised of different staffs, there is really no excuse for this embarrassing flub.
