Is Jennifer Aniston upset about Brad Pitt's friendship with Margot Robbie? That's the bogus story in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation, and we've learned the truth.
According to New Idea, Pitt and Robbie developed a close bond while shooting their upcoming movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and his ex-wife isn't happy about it. Robbie is married to producer Tom Ackerley, but a supposed source tells the outlet that she and Pitt were very touchy-feely at the Cannes Film Festival last week.
"There's no denying that Brad and Margot have become close friends," says the questionable source. "And while it's obviously very innocent, it's certainly had tongues wagging. They just seem so comfortable around one another, so relaxed."
The seemingly phony tipster goes on to say that Aniston is "beside herself" over Pitt's supposed "off-screen chemistry" with his co-star. "She knows there's nothing more to Margot and Brad's connection than just a friendship but she can't help but be jealous," adds the suspicious source. "Margot is so young and beautiful and at the prime of her career. And at the end of the day, Jennifer wishes she was in Cannes with Brad flirting up a storm. She's pretty down about it all."
Every aspect of the magazine's article is untrue. For starters, Pitt's rep has told us on the record several times that he doesn't have a flirtatious friendship with Robbie. The relationship between the co-stars is completely platonic and professional. The actress herself said in an interview with Porter magazine last year that she didn't spend much time with Pitt on set since they don't share many scenes together in the film.
Meanwhile, Aniston and Pitt haven't rekindled their romance in any capacity, so the notion that she would be upset about her ex-husband being friendly with his co-star is ridiculous. New Idea is the same outlet that Gossip Cop busted in February for falsely claiming Aniston and Pitt got married again at her 50th birthday party. Shortly after that, the tabloid made up a story about Aniston and Pitt going on a honeymoon to Paris. In addition to that narrative being entirely untrue, this latest article makes no mention of the ex-spouses being married again.
Despite the magazine's story being predicated on a false premise, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to Aniston, who confirms it's entirely made-up. The actress isn't upset about a nonexistent flirtation between Pitt and Robbie, nor would she have any reason to be bothered even if the two were getting close.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
