Does Jennifer Aniston want to set the “record straight” about Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux? One year ago today, a magazine insisted the actress was going to give an “explosive” interview to Ellen DeGeneres about her exes. Gossip Cop investigated the claim then and noted it was untrue, and now 365 days later it’s clear we were right because it never happened.
On April 3, 2018, Woman’s Day maintained Aniston was going to open up about Theroux and Pitt in a televised interview with DeGeneres. To give the appearance of having inside information, the magazine alleged it had a “source” who shared how Aniston was ready to the “record straight” about her husbands. The outlet even promised the former “Friends” star was going to drop “bombshell after bombshell” about them.
Among the revelations the publication contended Aniston would make was that Pitt “saved her from misery.” Previously, the same tabloid claimed Pitt rented a home so he could meet up in secret with Aniston. But the truth is, prior to him briefly attending her 50th birthday party in February, Aniston had not spent time with Pitt in more than a decade. Actually, DeGeneres’ wife, Portia de Rossi, said in an interview in June 2018 that she saw a magazine at a newsstand linking the ex-spouses and clarified how “they haven’t seen each other… I know for a fact [they aren’t back together].”
While the article from last year about Aniston looking to spill secrets about her exes was based entirely on an unnamed, untraceable, and possibly phony “source,” her rep exclusively told Gossip Cop on the record the whole story was “made-up.” As we reported 12 months ago, Anistion was never going to do a “tell-all” interview about Pitt and Theroux with DeGeneres, and of course she still hasn’t. In fact, Aniston was on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in December to promote her film Dumplin’, and she didn’t discuss either of them.
The closest Aniston has gotten to talking about them was when her friend Molly McNearney jokingly asked her in an interview for InStyle‘s September issue when she and Pitt were “getting back together,” and if Theroux ever wore her jeans. Without specifically addressing them, the actress said in general there are lots of “reckless assumptions” made about her in tabloids when, in reality, “no one knows what’s going on behind closed doors.” That wasn’t a “bombshell,” and she hasn’t dropped any before or since about Pitt or Theroux.
It bears mentioning Woman’s Day has a poor track record when it comes to reporting on Aniston. A little more than a week after its bogus story about her doing a sit-down with DeGeneres, the same publication wrongly asserted Aniston was joining Pitt and his kids on a trip to his Chateau Miraval estate in France. Several months later, Gossip Cop busted the outlet when it falsely claimed in its Australian edition that Aniston and Pitt got married in secret.
From time to time, Gossip Cop looks back at an article from the year before to assess how it’s held up, all in an effort to help readers figure out which outlets they can and cannot trust. Based on the tale from a year ago involving Theroux and Pitt, as well as the other aforementioned stories, it seems Woman’s Day isn’t a particularly reliable source of information about Aniston. Conversely, Gossip Cop won’t post anything about the actress until we’ve throughly fact-checked it.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
