Was Jennifer Aniston upset about Brad Pitt seeing an “Angelina Jolie lookalike”? The was the claim made by a website exactly one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop noted the report was 100 percent untrue, and now 12 months later it’s clear how embarrassingly wrong the story was.

On April 6, 2018, HollywoodLife slapped together a wholly fictitious tale, based on a slew of falsehoods, about how Aniston was supposedly bummed out that Pitt was spending a “lot of time” with an “Angelina Jolie lookalike.” The blog, often referred to as HollywoodLies, alleged Aniston was unhappy Pitt was focused on this “beautiful” other woman because the former “Friends” star was set on having a romantic “reconciliation with Pitt.”

To give the impression it had insight, the often discredited outlet claimed it had a “source” who maintained Aniston was particularly “crushed” because she and her ex-husband had recently both become “single,” and she “thought the timing couldn’t be better” for them to get back together. The habitually disproven site’s phony tipster further asserted that prior to Pitt taking an interest in the Jolie “lookalike,” he and Aniston had been “secretly getting together for late-night hookups,” which it insisted were arranged by their mutual pal George Clooney.

Virtually nothing in the farfetched article was remotely true. Gossip Cop noted 365 days ago the story was a collection of lies, and it’s even more obvious now. For instance, contrary to the claim about them having “late-night hookups” last year, before Pitt briefly stopped by Aniston’s 50th birthday party this past February, their reps confirmed the exes hadn’t come face-to-fact with each other in a number of years. Additionally, Clooney’s spokesman also told Gossip Cop the premise about him arranging secret trysts between Pitt and Aniston was completely wrong as well.

And lastly, the “Jolie lookalike” who HollywoodLies swore up and down Aniston was upset Pitt was in a “romance” with was MIT professor Neri Oxman. As Gossip Cop reported from the start, Pitt and Oxman never dated, a point she herself later made to the New York Times in an interview. Basically, everything the outlet claimed was a lie. Aniston was not nor is she currently looking for a romantic “reconciliation” with Pitt. She didn’t have secret “hookups” with her ex-husband that were orchestrated by Clooney. And Pitt was never in a physical relationship with Oxman.

In the intervening year since its manufactured tale about Aniston being “crushed” that Pitt was dating Oxman, HollywoodLies hasn’t gotten anymore accurate with its articles about them. For example, Gossip Cop busted the very same site a month later when it falsely contended Aniston was “hurt” Theroux was possibly dating Selena Gomez. When that was first posted, her rep exclusively told Gossip Cop, “All of it is made up, as usual.”

The reason Gossip Cop occasionally looks back at articles from the year before is to help readers figure out which outlets they can and cannot trust for stories about certain celebrities. It bears mentioning, members of both Aniston and Pitt’s camps have assured us that no one with real inside information about those stars is leaking anything to an unreliable blog. While HollywoodLies seemingly tries to dupe its visitors with all sorts of concocted scenarios, particularly about people like Pitt, Aniston, and Jolie, Gossip Cop will ultimately expose them, be it in a day, a month, or even a year.
