Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie were not close to having a “showdown” at a Golden Globes after-party, despite a new claim. The alleged incident never actually happened. Gossip Cop can debunk the story.

The new cover of In Touch teases, “Golden Globes Drama! Angie Vs. Jen Afterparty Showdown!” Similarly, inside the issue, a headline announces, “Jen & Angelina’s Showdown!” But no showdown actually took place. These attention-grabbing lines were purposefully phrased to entice readers and make readers think there was actually “drama” between Pitt’s two exes. There was not.

So, what does the tabloid’s tale actually claim? Well, it’s asserted that when Aniston presented on stage with Carol Burnett during the ceremony, Jolie “averted her gaze and popped what looked like a breath mint while Jen spoke.” A so-called “witness” is quoted as saying, “They were seated five tables apart, and Jen went out of her way to avoid Angelina.” Okay, so no drama and no showdown.

But the gossip magazine goes on to contend, “Things got really awkward when they both arrived at the Netflix afterparty.” The outlet cites a purported “insider,” who alleges reps for the streaming service “went into panic mode.” This supposed source further claims, “You could hear Jen say, ‘What’s going on?’ as she was hustled away from Angelina.”

Of course, no reputable outlet has reported anything remotely similar. While it’s true both Aniston and Jolie put in appearances at the Netflix party, none of the many reliable journalists on the scene shared anything about the two women having a near-miss and staffers panicking to keep them apart. So again, no drama and no showdown. And even if employees did keep the stars separated, that would also mean there was no drama and no showdown. No matter what, then, In Touch is misleading readers.

That’s unsurprising, though. In fact, last week Gossip Cop actually predicted that gossip publications would use Jolie’s presence at the event to make-up false narratives. We shared our hunch as we looked back at a tabloid cover story from last year that alleged Jolie and Kate Hudson were going to have a “showdown” at the 2017 Golden Globes over Pitt. Gossip Cop debunked the report, correctly stating that Hudson was not dating Pitt, Jolie had no beef with her and there’d be no “showdown.”

We were proven right when neither actress even attended the ceremony, and later in the year, Hudson confirmed that the stories linking her to Pitt were all phony, just as Gossip Cop had said. Now a year later, the showdown storyline is being applied to Jolie and Aniston. It’s still totally bogus.
