Were Jenna Dewan and Steve Kazee planning to get married in 2019? That's what one tabloid claimed exactly one year ago, but Gossip Cop debunked it. 365 days later, we're checking in on the situation for updates.

On February 27, 2019, In Touch published a completely baseless story alleging that Kazee was ready to marry Dewan and have children with her. "There's already wedding talk," claimed a "source" who was supposedly a friend of Dewan. "They have definitely moved into the serious stage of their relationship."

Whether or not this "friend" of the actress actually existed, or had any insight into the couple's relationship, Gossip Cop found absolutely no truth to the story. We checked in with a spokesperson for Dewan who was qualified to speak on the record, unlike the possible phony "insiders" that In Touch used. The rep dismissed the story, saying, "Does an eye roll count as a comment?"

So, has anything changed with the new year? Well, Dewan and Kazee are actually engaged... as of this month. That "wedding talk" the tabloid's source supposedly heard was off by an entire year. At the time the tabloid published the article, Dewan and Kazee had only been dating for about five or six months. They announced a full year later that they were expecting their first child, and moved in together in December.

Dewan and Kazee broke the engagement news on their Instagram accounts last week, each posting the same sweet photo of the couple kissing while the actress showed off her engagement ring. "A lifetime to love and grow with you," she wrote. "You have my heart."

Since announcing her split from Channing Tatum in April 2018, Dewan has been subject to a vast number of bogus tabloid rumors alongside her Tony Award-winning fiance. In March 2019, Gossip Cop shut down a story from NW alleging that Dewan was pregnant with Kazee's baby. It wasn't until September 2019, a full six months later, that Dewan announced she was pregnant. That story was clearly false.

In Touch still wasn't ready to let go with its bogus marriage tales a few months later. In June, the magazine claimed Dewan was rushing to marry Kazee in order to beat Tatum and Jessie J to the punch. "It's only natural they would want to outdo each other," stated a thoroughly incorrect "source." In fact, when Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Dewan, we were told she's "happy in her new relationship," but not "racing to anywhere." Dewan and Kazee's relationship eventually reached its course to an engagement and a baby. Jumping the gun by a full year just shows the tabloids can't be trusted.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
