Jay-Z Saturday Night Live

Jay-Z sang “4:44” on the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live.” The single is the title track off his new album, 4:44. Earlier, Jay-Z performed “Bam” with Damian Marley on “SNL.” See the video below of him singing “4:44.”

Jay-Z’s latest appearance on the sketch comedy show is in support of his album 4:44, which dropped on June 30. Within a week of its release, the album was certified platinum and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It also hit the top spot on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Much has been made of the revelations and acknowledgments in the record’s songs, including Jay-Z admitting to being unfaithful to Beyonce in the title track. At one point he raps, “I apologize for all the womanizing.” And in the song “Kill Jay Z,” he opens up about his fractured friendship with Kanye West, as well as about the infamous elevator fight he had with his sister-in-law Solange Knowles at the Met Gala in 2014. “SNL” actually mocked the latter incident in a sketch not long after footage emerged of the fight.

As Gossip Cop previously noted, this is the fourth time Jay-Z has the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” He first performed on the famed stage at Studio 8H at NBC back in 2000. He came back in 2002 and then again in 2010. Additionally, he’s made surprise appearances with other artists over the years, including joining Beyonce in 2003 and Justin Timberlake in 2013.

Not long after his “SNL” appearance, Jay-Z will embark on a two-month tour. It kicks off at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on October 27 and ends at The Forum in Los Angeles on December 21. In between, Jay-Z is set to perform 31 concerts throughout North America in such cities as Houston, New Orleans, Miami, Atlanta, Cleveland, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Montreal, and New York.
