Jane Fonda is not having a nervous breakdown over the recent death of her brother Peter Fonda, despite a false report. Although the actress is understandably sad about her brother’s passing, the idea that she’s mentally unraveling isn’t true. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
Peter passed away earlier this month at age 79 following a battle with lung cancer, and according to the National Enquirer, Jane’s pals believe she’s headed for a meltdown over it. “Seeing her only sibling go is a blow that may be more than Jane can take,” a supposed insider tells the outlet. “It was tough because Peter was the only one who shared her childhood trauma,” referring to how their mom committed suicide in 1950.
Jane’s so-called “pal” is further quoted as saying, “Peter was a big factor in Jane’s well-being. We’ve urged her to go into grief counseling before she slides into the abyss.” None of this is remotely accurate. Gossip Cop checked in with a trusted source close to the actress, who tells us, “Jane is understandably sad about the passing of her brother but is continuing with her work.”
Our reliable insider notes that Jane will be attending the Toronto Film Festival in the coming weeks. She’s also being inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame next month, and will be on hand to receive the honor. Additionally, Jane has remained active on Twitter in the wake of her brother’s death. The actress’s most recent post was to promote her An Evening with Jane Fonda shows in Massachusetts and New York. Those events, during which the actress will discuss her long career in show business, take place in December.
It should also be noted, when Jane released a statement about the passing of her brother, she made a point of saying that he “went out laughing.” The actress also stated, “I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days.” The actress is obviously very sad about her brother’s death, but her statement also indicates she’s grateful for the time they spent together before he passed.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to debunk a bogus story about Fonda suffering from a mental breakdown. Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer‘s sister outlet, RadarOnline, for falsely claiming in 2017 that the actress was in bad shape both emotionally and physically. In the time since we debunked the article, the 81-year-old actress has continued steadily working.
Our Verdict
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
