Video of James Blake being handcuffed by New York City police on Wednesday has emerged. As Gossip Cop reported, the former tennis star was making his way to the U.S. Open when a cop took him down violently in a case of mistaken identity. Watch the shocking footage below of Blake being handcuffed.

As Gossip Cop noted, Blake was mistaken for the suspect in an identity theft ring operating around a Manhattan hotel where he was staying. The Harvard-educated, black tennis player was tackled by a plainclothes police officer as he waited outside for a car to drive him to the U.S. Open. Blake was then detained for about 15 minutes as additional cops surrounded him.

The recently released surveillance video shows Blake leaning against a pillar outside of his hotel when a large man runs out of nowhere, and aggressively pulls him down to the ground. The cop can be seen putting his hands around Blake’s neck and pushing him face down on the ground before cuffing him.

The NYPD has since apologized for the incident and denied that race played a factor. A photo of the actual ID theft suspect in question was later released, and the man bear a resemblance to Blake. Regardless, the tennis star maintains that the officers used excessive force, and the footage below backs up his claims.
