Jake Owen announced he and Lacey Buchanan are divorcing on Friday. The country singer took to Twitter to reveal the news.

“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. We appreciate your support and privacy in this matter,” Owen wrote to his nearly 2 million Twitter followers. Attached to the tweet was a press release-like statement, which began, “Country superstar Jake Owen and his wife Lacey Buchanan have decided to divorce after 3-years of marriage.”

It went on to include a message from Owen himself. The star said, “I wanted to let my fans know how much I’ve appreciated their support of not only my career, but my family as a whole. Sadly, Lacey and I have decided to end our marriage. We want to focus on our daughter Pearl and make sure that she has a beautiful life with loving parents. We appreciate you respecting your privacy at this time.”

Owen and Buchanan wed in 2012, one month after becoming engaged. Pearl was born later that year, and she’ll turn 3 in November. The official split comes just a month after Owen copped to having marriage problems in an interview with NASH Country Weekly.

He candidly told the outlet, “My wife and I, for the last few months, have really been having a hard time and struggling with communication, and literally talking about divorce and all kinds of stuff. And I don’t want to talk about that, but after long conversations for days and weeks, part of us talking about it and getting it out there and letting people know that we’re the same as they are, we have problems, too, it made us feel better talking about the things we’ve kept from each other.”

Owen and Buchanan last stepped out together at the Academy of Country Music Awards in April, where, as Gossip Cop reported, they posed on the red carpet (see photo above). They’re now the third big country split this summer, following Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, and, most recently, Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock.
