Ivana Trump is denying she previously accused Donald Trump of rape, and says her ex would be an “incredible president.” See statement given to Gossip Cop below.

Ivana was Donald’s first wife, and they were wed from 1977 to 1992. Together they are parents to Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. They had a bitter split, and The Daily Beast reported Monday how Ivana once claimed her then-husband forced her to have sex in a deposition during their divorce battle.

The allegation was actually first reported, and denied, after it was published in the 1993 book, Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump, in which author Harry Hurt III claimed Ivana told “confidantes” that Donald “raped me.” The Daily Beast recounted the full story, in which Donald, angry over a plastic surgery procedure gone wrong, allegedly committed a “violent assault.” The site wrote, based on the book and the deposition:

Donald held back Ivana’s arms and began to pull out fistfuls of hair from her scalp, as if to mirror the pain he felt from his own operation. He tore off her clothes and unzipped his pants.

“Then he jams his penis inside her for the first time in more than sixteen months. Ivana is terrified… It is a violent assault,” Hurt writes. “According to versions she repeats to some of her closest confidantes, ‘he raped me.’”

Following the incident, Ivana ran upstairs, hid behind a locked door, and remained there “crying for the rest of night.” When she returned to the master bedroom in the morning, he was there.

“As she looks in horror at the ripped-out hair scattered all over the bed, he glares at her and asks with menacing casualness: ‘Does it hurt?’” Hurt writes.

On Monday night, Trump spokesperson/legal counselor Michael Cohen claimed The Daily Beast was misrepresenting what Ivana meant all those years ago, saying she “felt raped emotionally.” He further declared in response, “You cannot rape your spouse,” a comment he’s since apologized for. Now Ivana herself is distancing herself from the allegations, which she actually back-tracked from years ago, too.

In a statement furnished to Gossip Cop on Tuesday, Ivana says:

“I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald. The story is totally without merit. Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of. I have nothing but fondness for Donald and wish him the best of luck on his campaign. Incidentally, I think he would make an incredible president.”

Ivana previously said upon the book’s publication two decades ago that while she did indeed make the rape accusation in her deposition and felt “violated,” and although though she acknowledged she “referred to this as a ‘rape,'” she insisted, “I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense.”

Donald himself has not commented on the controversy, and, as Gossip Cop previously reported, his kids with Ivana released a statement of support for their father last week. Tell us what you think of the latest Trump scandal below.
