Independent Spirit Awards Winners 2017

(Film Independent)

The 2016 Independent Spirit Awards will honor the best in independent film on Saturday, and Gossip Cop has a full list of the winners!

Nominees for the 31st annual ceremony were unveiled last November, with Carol leading the pack. The movie is nominated for Best Feature, along with Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Female Lead. Interestingly, the film’s two stars, Cate Blachett and Rooney Mara, will be competing against each other

Also nominated for Best Feature are Spotlight, Tangerine, Anomalisa, and Beasts of No Nation. Others stars up for awards include Idris Elba, Jason Segel, Brie Larson, Paul Dano, Richard Jenkins, Michael Shannon, Cynthia Nixon and Jennifer Jason Leigh. There are 15 categories in all.

The awards, of course, are taking place just one day before the Oscars, but very few of the nominees overlap. Winners here are chosen by members of Film Independent and the Independent Filmmaker Project. The show, broadcast live on IFC, is being co-hosted by Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani.
