Is Hugh Jackman becoming a judge on a reality competition show? One of this week’s tabloids claims the actor may be headed to TV. Gossip Cop can debunk the story.
According to Star, “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” producer Nigel Lythgoe wants Jackman to judge a new competition series he’s creating. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “He sees Hugh as the ultimate feel-good judge, and they both share a love of dance, so they’ve been kicking around some ideas.”
The supposed source continues, “Hugh’s 50 and realizing his days doing stunt-heavy action flicks are numbered, so going in a different direction and tapping into his theatrical side might not be so bad.” The questionable tipster adds, “Plus, he loves mentoring up-and-coming actors, and he could potentially earn hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode.”
It’s worth noting, the tabloid provides zero details about the supposed series Lythgoe is developing, and not a single other outlet is reporting that the producer has a new reality show in the works. Additionally, the magazine’s premise is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly imaginary “source,” but Gossip Cop checked in with Jackman’s rep, who tells us on the record that it’s “completely made-up.” We’re assured the actor hasn’t been approached about judging a reality competition show.
In fact, it was announced last month that Jackman is embarking on world tour next summer. The actor will be touring arenas across Europe and North America, performing songs from his movies The Greatest Showman and Les Miserables, in addition to other tracks from various Broadway musicals. Jackman is busy rehearsing for the show, which kicks off next May. Simply put, the actor doesn’t even have time to judge a nonexistent reality show.
Unfortunately, the tabloids frequently make up bogus stories about the actor’s career plans. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted Star‘s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming that Jackman planned to get fat now that he’s done playing Wolverine. Of course, the handsome movie star hasn’t let himself go. Instead, he’ll be traveling the globe singing and dancing on stage.
Also earlier this year, Gossip Cop called out the magazine’s other sister outlet, RadarOnline, for alleging that Jackman “flipped out” after losing to James Franco at the Golden Globes. Not only was there footage disproving the blog’s phony article, but shortly before the ceremony, Jackman said in an interview that he predicted Franco would win. This latest article about the actor is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
