Jackman spoke to Michael Strahan during a live segment on the morning show about his new film, Logan, the newest instalment in the X-Men franchise. “I woke up at 4 o’clock and I had this idea of doing something that was a little grittier, a little darker, perhaps a bit more violent, getting to the heart of this character,” Jackman said. “I rang the director and we got to work. This is the result. I’m really, really proud of it.”

Jackman also discussed how it feels to leave the Wolverine franchise behind after 17 years of playing the iconic character. “It’s kind of like leaving the best part of your life. There’s a point where you should go, and this is just that time,” he noted. “It’ll never leave me. The fans come up to me every day of my life and I love them. This character I love. I don’t regret anything. I’m just really lucky and blessed.”

Jackman went on to talk about his hosting duties at the Oscars in 2009, and imparted some wisdom for this year’s host Jimmy Kimmel. “Right now he’s probably quite relaxed,” he said. “That guy is a pro. I love Jimmy and I think he’s going to be so excited. It’s a moment you never forget. My goal was to have the time of my life, whether it worked or not.” Check out the full “GMA” interview below!
