Howard Stern is slamming RadarOnline for calling his mom to find out why he took a day off from “The Howard Stern Show.” Listen to the audio below.

Last week, fans became concerned when Stern unexpectedly took off last Wednesday, as he’s not known for missing work. Many called his radio show absence a “personal day,” and silence from his camp allowed rumors to run rampant. Of course, Stern’s team was not obligated to reveal the reason he was missing in action, but that just led fans to tweet conspiracy theories, such as the possibility that the shock jock’s father died.

And then there was RadarOnline, which decided to invade Stern’s privacy by contacting his 89-year-old mother. The site blared in a headline on Friday, “Is Howard OK? Stern’s Mom Reveals The Truth About His Dad.” Promising “exclusive details,” the webloid further sensationalized the situation by teasing, “The radio star disappeared earlier this week as scary rumors swirled,” and promised the “full story, straight from Howard’s mom!”

Ultimately, towards the end of the article, the outlet stated, “Radar reached Howard’s mom, Ray, at home on Thursday and she confirmed that Howard’s dad, Ben, was alive and well.” But the online publication obtained no information about Stern himself. So, contrary to the teases and promises, the site did not have the “full story,” and basically just bothered an elderly woman to find out if her also elderly husband was still alive.

And when Stern returned to the airwaves on Monday, he angrily pointed it out. “These assh*les started calling my mother’s house. What am I, 5?” he asked. “If I miss a day of work, you don’t call my mother… They’re calling my mother to see why I’m missing school.” He added, “[It’s] ridiculous they’re calling my mother, and my mother gets all shook up.” He also revealed his mom wasn’t even aware he took off at the time she was pressed by strangers looking for an explanation.

Stern now explained his absence was actually due to a fever and flu-like symptoms. He bluntly admitted he didn’t want to come back on air this morning, but was disturbed by the controversy surrounding his day off. “I don’t want to be here,” he stated point-blank, going on to clarify, “I didn’t take a personal day. I took a sick day and I’m still sick. You can still hear it in my voice.”

“Why was it such a big deal that I took a f*cking day off?” Stern wondered. He went on later, “I wanted to take off today because my voice is still shot, but I was afraid to. I dared not. I felt so f*cking guilty.” The beloved broadcaster further noted a reporter was staked outside his home “for two straights days,” and rejected the suggestion that his absence was scheduled to drum up publicity.

Going on for roughly 10 minutes and again throughout the show, Stern remarked at one point, “I missed a day of work and all of a sudden it’s bigger news than James Comey.” And RadarOnline, it seems, did not call Comey’s mother. Listen to Stern address the situation in the video below.
