HollywoodLife spent the last weeks of 2014 going completely bonkers. Multiple times a day, the webloid printed sensational, often contradictory, and usually flat-out fabricated stories. And it’s for that reason HollywoodLife was Gossip Cop’s worst offender for December.

Continuing on a downward spiral that began in November, when the site also topped our monthly scorecard, HollywoodLife was busted by Gossip Cop a whopping 28 times. It was a number hit only one other time in 2014 (by Star in January), meaning we corrected more rumors from HollywoodLife in December than we did for almost every other outlet in a single month over the past year.

How did HollywoodLife earn the dishonor? Well, the site’s been on a tear ever since Selena Gomez publicly called them out, saying in September, “Hollywood life is never true. Ever.” Reeling from the humiliation, HollywoodLife has spent the months since then ramping up its click-baiting tactics. The site targeted not just Gomez again and again, but also her on-and-off flame Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart… just to name a few.

HollywoodLife horrendously tried to exploit Kim Kardashian’s alleged pregnancy problems, attempted to start a feud between Taylor Swift and Abigail Breslin, and posted side-by-side Gomez stories, 48 minutes apart, that completely contradicted each other (see above). And, oh yeah, they also STOLE Gossip Cop‘s exclusives on more than one occasion.

It’s not surprising that right behind HollywoodLife on our December tally was none other than the downmarket tabloid, the National Enquirer. But it probably says more about HollywoodLife that the site has sunk to that level. Among the Enquirer‘s most egregious errors in the last month of the year were falsely claiming Kardashian and Kanye West were in the midst of a “$195 million divorce shocker,” and hilariously alleging that Sean Penn was caught at a hotel with a “mystery blonde” when the woman, in question, was actually his girlfriend Charlize Theron.

How did other outlets fare in December? Check out the scorecard below, and be sure to come back on Friday, as Gossip Cop will be revealing which outlet was our worst offender of 2014.
