HollywoodLife is exploiting Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez with made-up stories. This is an insult to both stars and their fans, given that Bieber and Gomez have both called out the webloid on the record in the past for publishing fake news about them. Gossip Cop can explain what's going on.
As Gossip Cop has reported, in the wake of Gomez's breakup with The Weeknd, she has been spending time again with Bieber. The development has dominated much of the celebrity world this week. So naturally, HollywoodLies wants to capitalize on the topic. Since Sunday, the site has published approximately 20 related articles. These offerings include a ridiculous story on a "body language expert" deeming the pair "madly in love," as well as absurd attempts to connect the exes whenever possible, such as a piece headlined, "Selena Gomez Shows Off Amazing Abs In Sports Bra After Justin Bieber Date & Kidney Transplant."
Most problematic are the posts that outright fabrications, like this "exclusive" that was published late Wednesday: "Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber: How He Helped Her Get Over The Weeknd Split So Fast." The site is claiming it "EXCLUSIVELY learned" from a "source close to Selena" that Bieber is the "main reason" she's doing well post-breakup. "She is also heavily focused on her health and her recent hangouts with Justin have helped immensely put her focus on other things and the fact that those things are keeping her very busy, it has become a situation where it is out of sight, out of mind," this supposed snitch is quoted as saying, adding, "And as long as she continues to have a good time with Justin, she will move on from Abel just as quick as she got with him."
But Gossip Cop has repeatedly confirmed that those "close" to Gomez don't go dishing to HollywoodLies. Why? Well, because she and her camp know the outlet is more interested in clickbait than real reporting. It's why she actually told fans in an Instagram post, "HollywoodLife is never true. Ever." And it's also why Gomez point-blank said in a Billboard interview, "HollywoodLife is the worst." Those strong comments must be remembered every time the shameful blog pretends to have "exclusive" insight on the singer-actress.
HollywoodLies, however, isn't just claiming to be in-the-know when it comes to Gomez. It is also manufacturing articles from Bieber's perspective. For example, one "exclusive" on Tuesday was titled, "Justin Bieber Believes Selena Gomez Is 'The One' — Getting Back Together Is 'Destiny.'" This report cites an alleged "source," who contends, "Justin has told Selena that she is The One and he still believes it." The online publication goes on to make an embarrassing flub by wrongfully asserting Gomez split from The Weeknd "after 10 years of dating."
But what's most egregious is that the webloid is claiming to have any inside knowledge on Bieber at all when, in 2015, he actually campaigned to get HollywoodLies shut down. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Bieber told fans that HollywoodLife was "garbage," and also called the site "untruthful and hurtful." Given their history of spreading lies about him, no one in Bieber's inner circle likes dealing with the outlet. All of this makes it galling that the publication is back to pretending it knows what's going on with his love life and Gomez's.
Bieber and Gomez are indeed close again, but all these assertions about them are inauthentic. There is an established history of HollywoodLies concocting illegitimate stories about the former couple, and both stars have ripped the website for doing so. To go back to this kind of exploitation just shows the blog still doesn't care about practicing real journalism when it can instead capitalize on traffic by gaming search engines and enticing fans. Bieber and Gomez deserve better, and so do readers.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
