Hillary Duff did not secretly get married to her fiancé Matthew Koma, as a phony tabloid report is alleging this week. Gossip Cop looked into the story and we can bust it. It’s simply not true.

According to an article in Woman’s Day, Duff and Koma, who have been engaged since May, secretly tied the knot. The tabloid points to Koma’s Instagram post last week, in which he used the caption “wife” for a picture of Duff. Dubious “sources” tell the outlet that the couple “are indeed married.” One supposed source is quoted as saying, “They have always said that when it comes to their big day, it’ll be intimate and they’d possibly even elope, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they’d snuck off already and done it.” The so-called “insider” adds, “They’re insanely happy… All they would have needed for their perfect wedding day was each other and their kids.”

While Koma’s Instagram post is real, this story is false. The two haven’t gotten married yet. The couple started dating in 2017 and together have a daughter, Banks Violet Bair, who will turn one later this month. A rep for the couple told E!, after the post sparked all kinds of questions from fans, that Duff and Koma are not yet married. Indeed, Koma was using the word “wife” as a term of endearment, clearly excited that at some point Duff will be his wife. When that happens though, is still unknown to the public. The couple has not yet announced their wedding plans.

Made-up secret wedding stories are common in Woman’s Day. Just last month, the tabloid ran a phony report claiming Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx were secretly married, and were secretly divorcing after the news broke in August that the couple had split. The article alleged the two never signed a prenup and that a bitter divorce battle was looming. An “insider” told the magazine that Jamie “called her his ‘wife’ on more than one occasion and hinted that they were about to embark on a divorce battle.” The story was completely false, as Gossip Cop reported at the time. We reached out to Holmes’ rep, who told us on the record that the story was “100 percent untrue.”

Woman’s Day is also quick to make up stories out of Instagram photos. In August, the tabloid published an article asserting Nicole Kidman had revealed on Instagram that she was pregnant with her third child with Keith Urban. The outlet said Kidman “looked to be cradling a baby bump” in a photo she shared. Of course, she wasn’t. Instead of quoting unnamed, untrustworthy “insiders” like the tabloid did in its story, Gossip Cop checked in with Kidman’s spokesperson, who assured us there was “no truth” to the outlandish story, just like there’s no truth to Duff getting married already.
