Is Henry Cavill blaming Ben Affleck for putting his future as Superman in jeopardy? That’s the ridiculous claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

It was reported last year that Warner Bros. is reconsidering the direction of the DC Cinematic Universe following the underwhelming receptions of Batman v Superman and Justice League. Affleck is officially out as Batman, having been replaced by Robert Pattinson, while Cavill’s role remains up in the air. According to OK!, the Man of Steel star is “pointing fingers” at Affleck for hurting the superhero franchise.

“They didn’t have much onscreen chemistry and didn’t get along particularly well,” a supposed source tells the outlet. “Plus, fans never warmed up to Ben playing Batman, but Henry doesn’t feel it’s right that he too has to lose his job because of that.” The alleged insider adds, “He finds it unfair that just because Ben will never reprise his role, he hasn’t been able to either. He loves playing Superman and doesn’t want to be brushed off as a failure.”

It should be noted, there hasn’t been any final decision made regarding the recasting of Superman. Warner Bros. noted in a statement last year, “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films.” Regardless, Cavill isn’t solely blaming Affleck because Batman v Superman and Justice League underperformed. There were a ton of factors involved in both of those films. Justice League had a particularly rocky production, undergoing major reshoots and a change in directors.

The premise doesn’t make much sense either. Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa will continue reprising their respective roles as Wonder Woman and Aquaman in future films. Affleck’s recasting didn’t affect his other co-stars, so why would it impact Cavill? It’s an unrelated issue. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the Man of Steel star, who tells us the story is “made up.”

Just last month, Cavill told Men’s Health, “I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet.” Although there are no further Superman sequels in the works at this time, Cavill isn’t officially out of a job just yet. The actor’s future in the DC Cinematic Universe still remains unclear, but this storyline involving a grudge against Affleck is nonsense. Additionally, every video from the press tour of Batman v Superman and Justice League would indicate that the co-stars got along great.

OK! doesn’t seem to know much about Cavill’s career. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Cavill was begging Dwayne Johnson for a role in a Fast and Furious movie. That article was total fiction. This also wouldn’t be the first time a tabloid has tried to create a fake feud between Cavill and Affleck. The magazine’s sister publication, In Touch, alleged back in 2016 that the co-stars hated each other. The claim wasn’t true then and it’s no more accurate now.
