Harry Styles was hit in the face at One Direction‘’s concert on Tuesday after a fan threw a can at his head. See video below.

Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson were wrapping up their show at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field when the incident occurred. As Styles walked along the stage, audience members began hurling was appeared to be bottles and other objects in order to get his attention. Those didn’t make contact, but the British heartthrob was then hit on the right side of his face when one girl threw a Red Bull can filled with water.

Styles appeared stunned and in pain. And even though the band had started playing the night’s final song, “Best Song Ever,” the singer walked off stage clutching his face. Amazingly, the thrower took to Twitter afterward to make light of the situation.

“I accidentally hit him in the face and he doesn’t even notice me [crying emoji] what a waste,” tweeted Hanna Cooke. Not surprisingly, Directioners flocked to Styles’ defense and began ripping Cooke on social media, leading her to write on Wednesday morning, “If it makes you feel any better, a security guard literally threatened to sue me if harry was badly injured.” Still, Cooke was inundated with hate tweets.

She went on to reveal, “My mentions are full with ‘kill yourself,’ ‘choke on a d*ck,’ “shove a knife up your ass,’ ‘you deserve to die.'” Cooke attempted to defend herself over some of the criticism, writing, “If I’m such a fake fan like you say, then why would I buy an expensive ticket just to throw something @ them ? It’s irrelevant.” She further tweeted, “I know throwing it was wrong and disgusting but I did it and there’s nothing we can do about it now.”

Cooke even posted a lengthy apology, saying, “As I’ve said so many times, I’m truly sorry. I apologize to Harry and his family for doing such a ridiculous and stupid thing. I laughed because I was shocked and I didn’t know what to do. I never meant to hurt him. I love Harry with all my heart and I promise you I feel so bad. I’m sure Harry doesn’t want his fans to tell someone that they should die, not even after what I did.”

By noon Wednesday, the issue was still so intense that even Styles’ mom, who had earlier lashed out over the can-throwing, begged fans to leave Cooke alone. “So dangerous,” she initially tweeted after the concert. “THINK!!” She went on, “No harm done … This time … Unless you’re on a sports field is it acceptable to throw things at people?! I think not.”

But now Styles’ mother is pleading, “OK peeps!! Please do not turn to bullying @HannaCooke17 … that serves no purpose. Please just learn from the incident & be kind.” For his part, Styles has not commented on the incident. Gossip Cop has reached out to reps to make sure he is okay. Videos from different angles can be seen below.

UPDATE: Reps for Styles have no commented. He tweeted on Wednesday afternoon, “Thank you Philly for last night. Hope you all enjoyed the show, you’ve always been lovely to us. H.”
