Did Harrison Ford really get into a pot-smoking contest with Shia LaBeouf's dad on the set of 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? That's the bogus claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned it's completely made-up.
According to the National Enquirer, Ford had a "cannabis competition" with LaBeouf's dad Jeffrey during the shooting of the fourth Indiana Jones movie. An alleged source tells the magazine that Jeffrey was on set "as Shia's guardian" at the time, and when Ford learned that his co-star's dad was into weed, the legendary actor "dared him to a smoke-out." The anonymous insider goes on to call Ford a "pothead" and insists he got the "highest score" in the supposed pot-smoking competition.
The story makes little sense from the start considering that LaBeouf - who was born in 1986 - would have been at least 20 or 21-years-old during the filming of the Indiana Jones sequel. Grown men don't need parental supervision on movie sets. The outlet's tall tale is also based on the word of an anonymous source, but Ford's spokesperson calls it a total "fabrication."
One might be wondering, why is this story emerging more than decade after it supposedly happened? The mostly likely explanation is to capitalize on the upcoming release of Honey Boy, a semi-autobiographical movie written by LaBeouf, who plays his own father in the film. The movie centers around a child star being raised by an alcoholic and abusive dad. Most of the story is based on LaBeouf's real-life experiences.
What seems more likely? That the Enquirer has been sitting on this story since the release of The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 11 year ago, or that the upcoming release of Honey Boy inspired this fake article? We'll go with the latter, as Ford's own rep confirms there's no validity to the magazine's bizarre and outdated report.
It should be noted, the Enquirer seems to be a big fan of the Indiana Jones franchise. At least, the tabloid is a big fan of using the franchise to create phony stories. Less than a month ago, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming Ford's friends feared he was too unhealthy to make another Indiana Jones sequel. There was zero truth to the article, and the actor is expected to shoot Indiana Jones 5 sometime in the near future. It seems quite unlikely he'll be getting high on the set of the next sequel either.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
