Harrison Ford did not call President Donald Trump “brilliant” and “compassionate” during a recent interview, despite a completely fabricated report. The claim comes from a website known for publishing fake news. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
According to the unreliable blog UberConservative, the actor praised Trump during a supposed appearance on “Fox and Friends” and bashed his liberal counterparts in Hollywood for criticizing the president. Ford is quoted as having said, “I feel that the president is certainly fighting for the American cause and I’m not afraid to say what I think.”
Ford is also alleged to have stated, “Trump is a very brilliant man. I believe he is compassionate. For the first time ever we have a President who knows what he is doing and is totally independent.” The outlet further maintains that the movie star described Trump as “one of the greatest defenders of non-violent conflict resolution.”
As the story goes, Ford concluded his interview by asserting, “Everybody in America needs to be behind [Trump] and support him in what he’s doing.” However, the actor never made a single one of the comments being attributed to him in the article.
A handful of the quotes cited by the blog, including the parts about Ford calling Trump “brilliant” and “compassionate,” actually come from an interview with Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, Dr. Alveda King. The civil rights activist made similar statements during a July 2017 appearance on “Fox and Friends.” Ford, on the other hands, has never been a guest on the cable news show.
It should be noted, fake news sites have a habit of pretending that various A-list celebrities are diehard Trump supporters. Gossip Cop recently busted a phony article claiming that Denzel Washington credited the president with saving America from becoming a “totalitarian police state.” We also corrected a made-up story alleging Kevin Bacon said America is “blessed” to have Trump as president.
Also, the untrustworthy site illustrates its bogus story with a fake image of Ford appearing to hold up a “Make America Great Again” campaign sign. However, the picture was photoshopped. The original image is from a 2014 “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, in which he’s holding up a sign that actually said “Hello Reddit.” See the doctored photo and the original below. Obviously, Ford never endorsed Trump.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
