One of this week's tabloids is making up a fake feud between "Handmaid's Tale" co-stars Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes. Gossip Cop can debunk the supposed drama. We've learned it's nonexistent.
According to Life & Style, however, the co-stars "completely ignored each other" at a recent event promoting the Hulu series. The unreliable magazine doesn't mention when or where this event took place. It's a major red flag when an outlet fails to provide a time and setting for its story.
Still, an alleged insider tells the magazine that Moss "was having a blast with [co-star] Yvonne Strahovski and the rest of the cast, but Joseph refused to join in the fun. It was a really awkward situation. There's clearly some kind of rivalry or clash of personalities between the two of them."
The outlet's supposed source goes on to say that Fiennes "was acting entitled and kept to himself, while Elisabeth was much more outgoing and down-to-earth." The questionable tipster adds, "Apart from filming, they don't have much contact."
The magazine's story, which completely lacks details to back it up, is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable source. Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a rep for Moss, who tells us on the record that the report is false. There are no issues between the co-stars, despite what a seemingly fake "insider" claims.
It's worth noting, the outlet illustrates its story with a photo of Moss and Fiennes seemingly looking in different directions and ignoring each other at an unidentified panel (see below). The magazine would have readers believe this was taken at a "recent event," but the image is both old and doctored.
The photo was taken at the premiere of the first season of "The Handmaid's Tale" at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017. Meanwhile, the tabloid deceptively reversed Moss to make it seem like she was avoiding eye contact with Fiennes. The real image (see below) shows both co-stars looking in the same direction and likely listening to the panel's moderator or to another cast member answering a question.
A few days after the Tribeca panel, Moss and Fiennes were photographed laughing and chatting at the after party for the show's Los Angeles premiere. The co-stars also happily posed together at the premiere of "Handmaid's Tale" Season 2 earlier this year. It's clear there's no tension. See below how the tabloid altered a photo of Moss and Fiennes to make it seem otherwise.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
